I think I'm going to work my way through the albums in this thread that I don't know. Haven't seen a bad word said about any of them yet.
They all suck.

Now you don't have to listen to them. :neverusethis:

(actually I've only heard a select few of these, none of which I am thrilled about)

Really? This has probably been my favourite top 50 yet, based on what I've heard of it.

It was a joke. Except for the part in brackets. I have heard so few of these that I really don't have a say on the quality of this list.

I mean, more than half of these albums would probably land in pretty meh land for me. While some bands I still haven't gotten around to check out (Dear Hunter, Dir en grey)

It was a prediction. I meant to say:

I mean, more than half of these albums would probably land in pretty meh land for me.

Gonna edit that now.

My 'really?' applies to what you said in brackets, too.

Yeah. Turns out that's the case. :/

Turns out I've only heard 6 out of the albums so far:

50.  Ben Frost – Theory of Machines
49.  Brand New – The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me

48.  Opeth – Still Life :tup :tup album - it's Opeth...
47.  The Dear Hunter – Act III:  Life and Death (heard so much talk about them so gotta check out eventually, whenever their Acts or whatever is available on spotify)
46.  Sufjan Stevens – Michigan (gotta check out, I love Illinois)
45.  Unexpect – In a Flesh Aquarium (see Dear Hunter, also I love all the avant-garde I've heard so far - so I will love Unexpect whenever I get around to listening to them)
44.  Dir en Grey – Uruboros (See Dear Hunter)
43.  Red House Painters – Red House Painters I

42.  Bright Eyes – Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, , Keep Your Ear to the Ground - First few tracks are cringeworthy, literally. The later tracks are meh, so it's actually soothing considering when I had to go through. Only listened once and don't intend to revisit this.
41.  Venetian Snares Rossz - Csillag Allat Szuletett
40.  Devin Townsend – Terria - It's good, but not bonerific. Can't see why he's hyped up as the best thing ever.
39.  maudlin of the Well – Bath (See Unexpect)
38.  Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes (should check out, Tori Amos seems like one of those artists I could end up loving)
37.  Godspeed You! Black Emperor – F# A# ∞ (never been big on post-rock, should check out at some point though)
36.  Scott Walker - Tilt
35.  The Antlers – Hospice
34.  Her Name is Calla – The Quiet Lamb
33.  Gregory and the Hawk – Moenie and Kitchi
32.  Jonsi – Go
31.  Shiina Ringo – Shousa Strip (sounds interesting.... gotta check out)
30.  Porcupine Tree – Lightbulb Sun (Have gotta check out. I've only heard like 4 PT albums - I really liked In Absentia)
29.  Chroma Key – Dead Air for Radios (Kevmo, gotta check out)
28.  Ulver – Blood Inside
27.  Silverchair - Diorama
26.  Converge – Jane Doe

25.  Susanne Sundfor – The Brothel - Pretty good actually.
24.  Tosca Tango Orchestra – Waking Life soundtrack
23.  Bjork – Vespertine
22.  The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I
21.  Sweet Trip Velocity : Design : Comfort
20.  Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West
19.  Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica
18.  Bomb the Music Industry! - Scrambles
17.  Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
16.  Demians - Mute
15.  Yann Tiersen - Le Phare

14.  Sigur Ros - ( ) - I guess I just haven't understood the artform of post-rock. It all just seems rather meh to me,  :-\
13.  Tori Amos - From the Choirgirl Hotel
13.  Ulver - Shadows of the Sun

12.  Pain of Salvation - BE - Imago is one of the best songs ever. The album is really good, 8.5/10ish.
11.  Elliott Smith - Elliott Smith
10.  Jeff Buckley - Live at Sin-é (Legacy Edition) - should check out the guy.. been hearing a lot of good stuff about him

Guess I have a lot of catching up to do...

I'm going to finish this, actually.  Nevermind that whole part about me quitting.  I'm going to be pretty minimal in the write-ups, though.

Here we go, getting it done!

9.  Elliott Smith - XO

There aren't many sounds in this world that I prefer to that of Elliott Smith's subdued voice, multitracked into lush and elegant harmonies, whispering poisonously depressing words over soft, guitar-driven folk-influenced music.  XO is my favorite album of his.  Boasting a better production than his previous, more lo-fi sounding records, the album also marks a step up in his songwriting.  (which was already miles ahead of his peers)  Each song is driven by memorable and poignant melodies, which is what make his tender style so accessible and enjoyable.

Favorites:  Walt #1, I Didn't Understand

8.  Off Minor - The Heat Death of the Universe

There are probably not many appreciators of screamo-style music around here, so I don't expect a loving reception of The Heat Death of the Universe, but Off Minor's debut is a masterpiece of violently emotional jazzy hardcore, overflowing with stunning instrumental acrobatics tightly woven into layered arrangements full of dissonance and clashing guitar chords against subtle bass work and heavily jazz-influenced drumming.

Favorites:  Monday Morning Quarterback, Punch for Punch

7.  Tomáš Dvořák - Machinarium (OST)

Essentially, Machinarium is the perfect game soundtrack.  I've never come across another game with music that weaves itself so tightly into the gameplay itself and enhances every bit of the experience, matching each mood and surrounding perfectly, and yet stands alone so well as an album of beautifully lush and intricate electronic music.

Favorites:  Mr. Handagote, The Sea

6.  Sigur Ros - Ágætis Byrjun

Wonderful album.  My favorite from Sigur Ros.  Yeah

Favorites:  Hjartað Hamast, Olsen Olsen

I always say I like ( ) the best, but I end up questioning that every time I listen to AB.

Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

While I think that Machinarium's soundtrack is great, nothing beats Braid's soundtrack. I'm listening to it now and it suits the game perfectly and never gets old.

Even though ( ) is my favorite, Agaetis Byrjun and Takk are just as fantastic.
Overall a great update, can't wait for more!

Well yeah, I love that one as well, and even like Von (which some people dont), I just consider ( ), AB and Takk their "holy" trilogy. ;)
