Excited for this. The press stream hit my inbox either yesterday or late last week, but with Fates Warning, I haven't listened yet, and probably won't until I get the actual CD (I pre-ordered it a while back). Can't wait for this album. Vanden Plas can do no wrong.  :metal

Not a bad single

I honestly haven't loved VP since Christ 0. After that I would still buy the albums but they just didn't do it for me. Will check out the new one though.

I listened to the previous album yesterday and didn't even remember that the new one was coming soon. It was me who posted about it in here 6 weeks ago as well.  :lol My memory is shot to shit

Their sound has changed a little and become a bit samey IMO.  I did like Netherword 1 a lot but I feel while they produce quality stuff still, they are a bit in a rut.

I’m with ya. It’ll still be a release day insta-purchase for me. One of the bands I could count on one hand that this applies to for me

Not entirely unexpected.

High quality video production
Musically - nothing I haven't heard from VP before.
Still an excellent listen.

Invariably a release-day purchase for this guy.

I haven't watched or listened to any of the new VP. I typically don't with them. I just buy the record and listen. Your summary of the video is about what I expected. LOL. VP, at least for me, never disappoints.

I've been ragging on these guys for getting  stuck in a rut, but this I quite enjoyed.  Sounded like something from Christ O.

Guys, I've only heard a few tracks from Christ 0 and I quite liked it. Is the new album worth a listen as the next step or should I check out another one instead?

I will say I'm enjoying the new album much more than The Ghost Experiment - Awakening. The new one is on par with the Netherworld pair of albums. I'm not really familiar with anything pre-Netherworld, I should dive deeper into these guys discography.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

The first album I heard from the band was Far Off Grace - the opening track (I Can See) is very Dream Theater-like.  That is still my favorite album of theirs, probably because it was the first one I'd heard.

Most of their albums seem to be similar in sound/style.

Well, sounds like the perfect opportunity to rank their discography!

Beyond Daylight
Netherworld I and II
Far Off Grace
Ghost Xperiment - Awakening
Christ 0
The Seraphic Clockwork
The God Thing (though, it does have my absolute fave song by them - Rainmaker)
Colour Temple

Not ranking the new release yet, I've only listened to it twice.

I like the new album a little bit better than its companion.   I would love to have these guys go back to what they were doing back around The God Thing, not necessarily making concept albums.  This seems to be a trend in prog metal lately, every album is a concept album.  Sometimes just a collection of songs can be great too.

Just a bump for those who missed their new live album on the Friday Releases thread

Vanden Plas - Live & Immortal was also released today. Great live stuff. Always have had a soft spot for VP.  :metal

The Chronicles of the Immortals albums. Without a doubt. Each were my AOTY for ‘14 and ‘15.
Then The Ghost Xperiment albums
Seraphic Clockwork last.

All of my Shadows which as like 3 VP members is fairly decent. Think of it as a shorter songs version of Vanden Plas..but yes, imo, jingle_boy nailed with the VP albums post Christ 0.

I bought Chronicles 1 many years ago. I had a hard time getting into it at the time, but went back to it again recently and have really enjoyed it. I wish more of this band's CDs were in print—I just bought Ghost Xperiment 1 and will soon buy the second one, but tracking down the others will take a bit of work. I wish I hadn't missed that box set that they did some years ago. (Why is it that these convenient box sets that package a bunch of out-of-print albums always seem themselves to be very limited run?)

I know I could always stream the stuff, but I'm still quite attached to the CD format and have a hard time giving my full attention to something I'm exploring through streaming.

I've got both Chronicles and the first Ghost Experiment when I could still buy stuff abroad. I didn't like the first Ghost Experiment much so I didn't buy the second one, then I listened to it and it's miles ahead of the first, but now I've got nowhere to buy it from. :lol

Also (at least on my copies) Chronicles I is titled "Netherworld [path one]", and Chronicles II is titled "Netherworld II" and that irritates me to no end. The albums were released a year apart, just pick one and stick to it.
