I'm pretty sure When All is Lost is about illegal downloading.

I was about to say "yeah right" but since the band confirmed that The End of Innocence is about social networking, I suppose it wouldn't surprise me.

I gave the whole thing a listen now since the pre order came in today. The tracks that stood out to me were Iconoclast, When All is Lost, and Reign in Madness.

I def. gotta listen again because there's a lot to take in. I wish there were some lighter moments because it does get really samey. Also like 4-5 tracks end with a fadeout which kind of disappointed me. Hopefully my opinion will change once I listen a few more times.

Got my t-shirt, signed Lithograph of the band, and the Special Edition 2CD set in today! Wooohooo!

No time to listen to it all now as I am about to head out for the night, but I've listened to a bit of the first track on Disc 2 and it's pretty good stuff! Can't wait to dive into the whole album! :metal

Pre-order came a day early! :metal

Was the lithograph mentioned on the pre-order page? I don't remember them including that so this is a pretty cool surprise. :tup

I didn't preorder it, I'll just have to see if Best Buy has it tomorrow (they had PL on the release date, so I assume it will be the same with this one). Can't wait! It's all I'll be thinking about at work tomorrow :caffeine:

If they had PL on the release date you can be pretty sure they'll have this since they're on a bigger label now.

When did they make the switch to Fridays instead of Tuesdays for CD releases?

Just because most albums are released on a Tuesday doesn't mean that all albums have to be.

Yeah exactly what I figured.

When did they make the switch to Fridays instead of Tuesdays for CD releases?

Hmm, I never noticed there was always a set day for that?

Just because most albums are released on a Tuesday doesn't mean that all albums have to be.

Since I've been buying CDs, the release date has always been on a Tuesday. This is the first time I've ever seen a Friday release date for a CD.

I've started getting used to the heavy edge on this album. It's good.

But it's a step down from PL, except for title track and the GODLY When All Is Lost.

DAT SONG. Seriously, the best SX song since Odyssey title track.

Lots of boring and uninspired professionally executed metal tracks on this album. Not my thing anymore, whereas I couldn't get enough of that style a few years ago. Bummer, because when I was into the whole shredmetal thing, nothing excited me more.

The title track and When All is Lost are exceptions though. These two tracks bring something interesting, I like them better than all of PL.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

I actually saw Symphony X live a few weeks ago, they completely kicked ass- especially with The Odyssey as an encore track.  :metal

Is the album out in the US yet?
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. After we talked yesterday, I checked online, and the release date is showing as Tuesday.  I think the 6/17 date is just for the preorders.

So I got my hands on a copy of this. It's pretty good. Not the kick in the balls that Paradise Lost was, and I don't see this album knocking Paradise Lost out of pole position for me, but I'm liking Iconoclast so far. Still have to give the second disc a spin, will do that later, but the first disc ain't bad. I especially like the title track so far.

First impressions after 1 listen of the first disk only:

Title track: Great
2-4: Not bad, but didn't stand out
5: Getting better
6: Love the intro riff about 15 seconds in
7: *Changes pants*

Hoping the trend continues into the second disk.

Second disc is finally clicking with me!

First disc >> second disc IMO but maybe that's because I listened to the songs on the first disc more.

Even though the album lacks the melodic stuff that we all love, it's still a fun listen especially in the car.  :metal

First disc is fantastic, how you guys don't like some of these songs is surprising. Children of a Faceless God is a really good song, and Iconoclast and When All Is Lost are great, of course. The others are solid songs, too.

More "breathing" room would be nice, but there's more melodic parts in a good bit of the songs, so I'm not disappointed one bit.

Going to disc 2, now.
