My favourite live moment was most definitely the extended version of "Beyond This Life" from the Budokan concert. I still remember the first time watching that and grinning uncontrollably when they finished the jam and entered back into the next section of the regular version of the song, to the delight of the crowd. That was just an amazing moment, I thought.

Favorite Extra = In the commentary for I&W Live in Japan when the all have a good laugh at Labrie twirling himself across the stage.
Wait, is this the moment you were referring to?

You Not Me's chorus.
Excuse me?  ;D

I also love the scene where Kevin Moore picked up the small tape and says "This is too big I need something smaller!"

That whole commentary track for those two DVDs is just gut busting.

There is also the part where Portnoy was talking about quitting the band and telling the story how he was ready to leave mid tour and it seemed so serious. And Petrucci is like

"yeah imagine if that really did happen.......that was over Mcdonalds right? *portnoy cracking up*

Yes, this is what happened to me when I first watched the Budokan version of "Beyond This Life", and the 'Score' version of "The Spirit Carries On" now that I think about it.
Certain moments during the performance made me more than just grin; they managed to make me so happy/excited that I actually laughed. That might seem a bit weird, but eh, I don't care; I'm sure some people here will get where I'm coming from  :).

The Metropolis'00 overture, the best ending they've ever done, wish this was played with the orchestra.

Surprised no one's provided the correct answer yet, which is clearly JOHN PETRUCCI'S "VOICES" SOLO.

The best DT moment(s) for me was when news started to pop up about BC&SL. It was Dream Theater release since I became a fan during the Systematic Chaos tour. And even though the album wasn't the best ever I still remember the excitness(?) of this period around the BC&SL release.

John Petrucci's awful vocal demo of The Spirit Carries on always makes me laugh... it's hardly a masterclass in performance but sometimes it's more joyful to just listen to musicians having fun, y'know? Having a laugh. And that one fits the bill.

I'm also a huge fan for Another World, everything from the way it just explodes into the opening from the previous section, to the impassioned vocals, to THAT Petrucci solo... fantastic.

I'm sure I could go on, but that'll do.

Yeah, they had to re-record his vocals - always a bit disappointing to hear that. But if you check out some clips of the song from other nights in 92/93 he puts in incredible performances of it.

Not sure if I can post the clip, but if you search Youtube for 'killing hand 1992' the first clip from Long Island in October 1992 has 2 of the most insane things I've heard come out of his mouth!  ;D i.e 'Walking amidst..A FRIGHTENING STILL!' and 'king from below... THIS ONE CONTROLS'. He doesn't hit them like that in the LATM version

The first time I listened to Metropolis Pt. 1 on Live At The Marquee. When JLB goes wicked high on "I've found it's all caught up with me" I like jizzed, It's inspiring. The vocals on the whole track kick ass, hard

Don't be so pessimistic... James's range is slowly climbing back, and I have a feeling that sometime in the future he'll wow us, maybe just once, maybe a few times, but I  feel like he's been NOT singing very high to help his voice for when he does want to sing really crazy.
I mean he already hit a G5 in the beginning of the tour...

Scarred Outro
Trial Of Tears Chorus
LTL
The last 3 minutes of metropolis
Portnoy's drumming during the instrumental section of Fatal Tragedy
These Walls Outro

I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

In what friggin' universe is a 68 minute long album "short"?

I've found a couple other moments that always amaze me: The beginning of The Best of Times: the first time I heard that guitar intro I cried. Petrucci's outro solo on Innocence Faded and his solo on Scarred is awe inspiring. To be honest, I'm hoping ADToE sounds similar to Awake, as a whole. To me, that is some of their strongest playing pre Jordan Rudess.
