You left out three albums.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. I can understand leaving out WDADU and SC, but ToT? I happen to really like that album's production.

Even then, really crappy to leave out any of them.

Can't decide between FII, SDOIT, and SC.  Even though I mostly dislike SC's songs, I think the mix is great.

Fixed but i don't think either of those albums should even be in this discussion.

Deciding between Awake, SDOIT, and 8VM. Tough decision.

Then what is the point by leaving a few of them out, even if they don't sound good IYP? That is weird.

WDaDU is cleary not in the same category just as SC has bad guitar tone, poor bass volume, and extremely in your face punchy drums. ToT sounds compressed it just doesn't speak like a lot of the other albums.

For sheer inventiveness and diversity, I've gotta go with FII. Listen to the variation of the drum sounds between the songs, the experimentation with compression on certain instruments, the clarity of Derek's keys, John's spectrum of guitar tones. Sonically, it has left the biggest impression on me, but that's also possibly due to some of the songs being a bit of a departure from normal DT fare. There was some stuff going on with those songs that allowed for very wide interpretation in the mix as well - variety that wasn't really possible with a concept album like SFAM or the rather two-dimensional approach of ToT. I think the same thing can be said of 8VM  - variety of genres and song styles allowed for a lot of experimentation in the production and mixing, but I think this was employed better on FII.
No light at the end of the tunnel due to budget contraints

FII. It's a real sonic treat; every instrument has enough space to breathe, it's not too loud, there's diversity in accentuation etc for the instruments and it gives the album a somewhat "lighter" feel which is probably how it's supposed to be.
... And you ask me: "Where's my hairspray?"

I am surprised how many people are choosing SDoIT. Never was a huge fan of how it sounded sonically even though I love the songs, but I would choose Falling into Infinity! I love how the bass has punch on this album.

FII...

but 8VRM and ToT come in close second
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I'm surprised not that many people voted for Octavarium. Its got such a clear and crisp sound, each instrument is the right tone and volume to compliment each other nicley

Just compared them and as much as it's one of my least favorite albums, I find that Octavarium has the best sound.

It's a tough call between FIF and Six Degrees...

I'll go with FIF.

This poll is really stupid. Leaving out certain albums because you've already decided that YOU think they are bad completely defeats the point of doing a poll, which is to get EVERYONE ELSE'S opinions.

On that basis, I'm not voting.

This, although it is far from my favorite DT album, it is without question their best-sounding album.

I also love the production on Awake and 6DOIT.

cool story bro your about 7 post to late. And apparently i was correct because neither of those albums have more then 1 vote.

Those are the 3 worst sounding albums by far and dont even deserve to be in the disscussion with FII, SDOIT, Awake or 8vm

I am surprised how many people are choosing SDoIT.

It can't touch Awake or FII, but I think it quite clearly being the best sounding album of the Rudess era is helping its cause here.

I'm surprised not that many people voted for Octavarium. Its got such a clear and crisp sound, each instrument is the right tone and volume to compliment each other nicley

I am surprised anyone would vote for it (okay, not really, but you get my drift :lol), given its clear problems with compression that the earlier albums do not have.

Fair enough, but if it had the production sound that it has now, with the production quality of FII then it would be even more amazing
