The My Morning Jacket Thread v. Circuital
« on: May 28, 2011, 05:11:58 PM »
So I'm listening to the new album and I'm thinking "is there a thread on these guys on DTF?  I don't think there is!  I'll make one!"

So I did.  I think they'd actually appeal to a lot of people here.  Indie rock, great grooves and guitar work...just great music, basically.  Z should be a part of everyone's collection.

NOW DISCUSS!

My dad picked up most of their albums pretty recently and has been playing some of it in the car, even though I haven't heard too much of it, it's very good IMO.
Is the new album out now? Like, in stores?

Don't mind me, just the resident biggest My Morning Jacket fan here

and the new album kicks some 60's/70's soul-ish music booty.

The only reason I know these guys is because of the American Dad episode.

alright, so if people want recommendations i'll make a thing here

CIRCUITAL (2011) out next week

probably not the best place to start, but still a cool album. nice and quiet for the most part, huge amounts of groove and feel going on. very 60's/70's influenced. not very representative of their sound, but that changes a fair bit from album to album.

EVIL URGES (2008)

this may be a really good place to start. a nice and fun album, yet very dynamic. catchy catchy catchy.

Z (2005)

another excellent starting place. sweet rockin' songs that aren't afraid to shake your booty for you

IT STILL MOVES (2003)

great album. a lot lot lot of feel on this one. the songs are pretty long too, i think the average is 7 minutes or something.

AT DAWN (2001)

this album. you could set a watch to this album. very indie, very subdued but with a good bit going on. this is an album that you wrap around yourself like a blanket and dream of the old west in.

THE TENNESSEE FIRE (1991)

yeehaw twang banaooow twing *bang bang*

Same. I expected them to be pretty bad from the snippets they played during the show. But then when they played the small live clip during the credits, I was pretty surprised. I'll probably check them out under the guidance of Sonatas list.

I fucking love At Dawn. The track. I don't know if it's the simple chord and vocal bit that follows the drum buildup or whatever but for some reason that one track makes me listen to the album so much.

I still really have to listen to an album of theirs, because sonata played that one song on turntable and it was pretty cool.
