EDIT: Wolfking, I saw them live when they supported the CTS and they definitely can sing..

Except for Brent. What an awful singer.

tbh, both Troy and Brent aren't very good singers.  Brann's actually their best clean singer and he only sings on one song.  :lol

Troy is so much better than Brent. I wouldn't lose any sleep if Brent was never allowed to sing again and Troy took over all of his parts.
Gadough isn't Hitler. He's much, much worse.

This is all I wish for.  It's sad to see how much Brent has taken over the vocals when Troy is so much better.  I think this was a big reason that this new tracks and CTS let me down.

I disagree, i love Brent's vocals.  They are much cleaner and when Trooy sings many times it sounds like a yelp more than singing.  It fits in some songs, but on CTS, Brent's vocals fit so much better than Troy's would.
Also i like Brann's voice more than either of Troy's or Brent's.

I like that this sounds like BM but with vocals from CTS.  Its a beautiful asskicking combination.  Just my opinion though.

That's mostly what I was hoping for too, although I wouldn't mind some variety with the clean vocals too like wolfking said.

Brent is an original, unusual vocalist. I think he's awesome. New song is really good, I agree with Wolf about CTS being their weakest album, but this track sounds like the Mastodon I love.

I find posts like this pointless.  You're adding nothing to this conversation, when instead you could say what in the song you didn't like.  From that it just sounds like you came in here to bash on Mastodon.

Regarding the video someone posted, I'd say that it was good singing  :P

That's the thing, I think they have tried to improve over the last few albums, but since they are so weak at the vocals department, it doesn't show through like it should.  Troy has some talent, I can't say much for Brent or Brann.

In all seriousness, he wouldn't legally be allowed to sell you anything licensed like the Mastodon shirt. But, if anyone is interested in supporting his business, I'll let you know when his site goes up ;)

Anyways, Live at the Aragon is still holding a solid spot as one of the best releases so far this year. Granted, the competition is not all that fierce from other artists. Most releases have been pretty underwhelming this year.

Nope its not.

Iconoclast was incredibly boring.
Chuckles and Mr Squeezy was underwhelming.
Born This Way was not amazing.
Suck it and See was only a marginal improvement on the very weak Humbug.
Endgame was only OK.
Turtleneck and Chain was pretty weak.

That's a good chunk of albums I was really looking forward to.
Granted there is still DT, Opeth, Mastodon, Mars Volta, maybe Rush, maybe PT, maybe PoS, and some other shit to look forward to. But, as of August, there have only been about 6 slam dunk albums: Scurrilous, Ghost, Deconstruction, Wasting Light, The Collective, and The Color Spectrum.
