The clean guitar sound at the start of Megalodon is one of the best i've ever heard.

4th video feat. Bill up today.

The album reveal can't be too far away. The album was finished in November or so so i'm gonna guess March. I don't think they'd be teasing it this early if it was out in June or something.

I remember one article I read said it'd come in Spring, so probably March, maybe April.

Yeah I was shocked how fast they recorded it. I think they entered the studio in late September and it was done by the end of October. Like totally done.

They must have known all their parts inside out and just gone in and put them down.

I'm guessing they recorded all in the same room - but with separation too. To get that live feel. Then overdubbed where necessary.

---- Scott Kelly is on it again. How many songs is he on now ? Like 6 ? They should put out a special Mastodon feat Scott Kelly EP :P

This is pretty neat https://eos360.mastodonrocks.com/ has some great riffs. I just the album sounds better than the last one. I could never listen to more than a couple of tracks without my ears starting to hurt.

Yeah, dat O'Brien production is shining through! :metal Those riffs feel way more like the Mastodon that made Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye than the one that made The Hunter or OMRTS. Love all their albums, but I'm loving this apparent return to the more aggressive riffs here.

The clips sounded very The Hunter to me.

Which is 100% fine as that's my favourite Mastodon album.

I literally finished listening to The Hunter. Opened Twitter and the first thing I see is from Mastodon :D

So excited. I'm thinking the album will be out in March.

I don't think Once More... was overly loud - I just didn't particularly enjoy the muddled production. Like it was trying to be as shiny as the Hunter but still sludgy and it didn't quite work.

EDIT :

Found this online. Dunno if it's genuine yet. Good title though.

For anybody curious, if you look at the source here, you can see the clip playing is from Sultan's Curse.

:2metal: :2metal:

this is probably the most " Traditionally Metal " album art they've had what with the skulls and everything. Til now it's mostly been creatures.

Remission - Horse
Leviathan - Whale
Blood - 3 headed wolf bear thing ?
Crack The Skye - Bear
Hunter = 3 jawed bull thing
OMRTS = god knows what :P

Listening to "Sultan's Curse".

Immediately better production than Once More Round The Sun. More like The Hunter again. Punchy and deep.

I'm really liking the new single, that "oceans of sand" part is really amazing! I'm a little dissapointed by the album cover, not a very imaginitave composition and just not a big fan of the colours in it. But it's the music that matters in the end, and this single sounds really promising  :metal

fun (nonsense) theory I read somewhere: the album cover is referencing Trump (because of the ridiculously small hands), the album name fits too, Emperor of Sand is what he will become if he keeps denying climate change  :P

Solid enough track, definitely just sounds like Mastodon.  I get a lot of CTS in this track, but I also actually hear a lot of Blood Mountain in the riffing to.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Really solid first single. It's pretty standard 'don but that's not a bad thing, I love their sound. It's good to hear Brent, Brann and Troy singing on this  :metal I'm really looking forward to this album. I'm not a huge fan of the artwork (maybe it will grow on me) but that's only because of the awesomeness of previous artwork.

On my second listen of the single and it's good, real good. Now watching the little teaser things they did  :lol Brent, what a guy. He's such a stoner, can't help but love him  :heart

Love Sultan's Curse. Reminds me of Crack the Skye era, but a bit more accessible (not in a bad way). Can't wait for the record. I picked up Crack the Skye off a recommendation from this forum years ago (I think it was summer 2009), and haven't looked back. I skipped seeing them play with Alice in Chains on the Crack the Skye (I think it was that tour), but saw them headline on The Hunter tour and met them at a signing, where I took a cool pic with them and they signed my Crack the Skye vinyl (still one of my favorite all time records). Cool dudes, great tunes. I didn't get to see them on Once More, and will miss the leg coming up soon, but I'm hoping I will catch them at the end of the tour if they do another leg by me.

Absolutely great stuff.
