Yeah, it's alright, but just never did it for me like most of the other songs.

Seeing them live for the first time on the 31st of August. Any tips for the setlist and the band's live performance?

Ember City, Chimes At Midnight, Halloween and The Motherload are my favorites from Once More... and I think Asleep In The Deep and Diamond In The Witch House are my least favorites, but even they are still pretty good. I will say one thing, Once More is amazingly consistent even if my favorites are a bit lower-key by Mastodon standards. I dunno, but listening to this again and thinking about this more, I think I might like it more than Blood Mountain now. Fuck.

Ironically - The Hunter was a very spontaneous album and Bill was away a lot and had to learn a lot of the songs after the fact.

Once More was a year in the making and apparently even more pre-produced than Crack The Skye yet the Hunter feels more like the better written of the two.
I remember reading that the recording of Once More was incredibly disjointed because there were personal issues in the band members personal lives or something to that degree--Brann recorded his parts in like a week and then left to go deal with things happening in his life. They always said in interviews that stuff happened and they don't want to talk about it

That's the thing with Mastodon. Even if they put out a "weaker" album. It's still great.

It would actually be a surprise if they put out a truly terrible album.

Brent Hinds - we've written two albums. New album is looking like a double.

Sounds great. Brent has written most of one of the discs and the other three mostly wrote the other disc. Seeing as Brent was almost exclusively responsible for Crack The Skye - this is very exciting.

And if Bill is writing more - we may get some super heavy stuff too.

Roll On 2017.

The Hunter may be my favourite Mastodon album. Really great concise writing and stellar sound quality.

Just a great vibe throughout.

Crack The Skye a very close second. Then Blood Mountain with Leviathan not far behind then Once More Round The Sun and then Remission.

Sounds good to me. I'm not a huge fan of The Hunter (but only because I love Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye so much) and wasn't such a fan of the direction they went with that album. I liked Once More Round the Sun quite a lot though. Looking forward to seeing what they do next.

OMRTS is good but the muddy production brings it down for me.

The Hunter is bright and polished and IMO the songs are better.

Plus it has Dry Bone Valley and The Sparrow & The Hunter.

I might have to agree that The Hunter is better than Once More as a whole. However, the first 3 songs off of Once More are better than anything from The Hunter.

OMRTS is actually my #2 Mastodon album. After Crack the Skye, of course. But The Hunter also very good, I enjoy it way more now than when it was just released.

The words double album get me goin'. I'm supremely excited to see what kind of material they came up with. Also for the pseudo-solo album based around a bad break up. That usually leads to good stuff. Melancholic, but good.

Totally. I like The Hunter now more than I did when it came out, but I've always felt it's their weakest since Leviathan. I vividly remember downloading The Hunter and Heritage, by Opeth, at the same time when I was travelling Australia. I can remember listening to both of them and feeling so disappointed that two of my favourite bands had followed such strong albums (Crack the Skye and Watershed) with (IMO) really weak albums. I was distraught.

I too MUCH prefer The Hunter to OMRTS. OMRTS is just not really all that interesting to me. There's great playing and some real good songs but nothing all that different for the band and not enough that is catchy enough to make me want to keep going back to it over some of their other albums. The Hunter had some psychedelic stuff like The Sparrow and songs that made me want to keep putting it on.

I'd have a difficult time ranking their albums and I at least like every single one of them. At times I'd have Blood Mountain, Crack The Skye, and Leviathan at the top with The Hunter closely following them and then Remission and OMRTS behind them.

I think Blood Mountain, Crack The Skye & The Hunter are all A+ and everything else is just below that.

Leviathan was the album I gravitated to the most when I first got into Mastodon and I'd still rank it as one of the band's absolute best works to date, but I definitely feel that Crack the Skye is the band's greatest accomplishment thus far. I had it ranked at the very top of my Top 50 Albums list for good reason, after all. :metal :tup

Thank fuck it's not Nick RascalKnickers.

I like Once More Round The Sun but the sound of it wasn't the best.
