I hope there's a special edition this time around that's a bit better than The Hunter.

Ok it had that Augmented Experience thing - but Crack The Skye's making of DVD was 90 minutes long.

The Hunter DVD consisted of a 2 minute making of.

Felt really gypped.

It appears for now, it's only available on a standard edition 2xLP vinyl, CD, and the super duper quadruple gatefold deluxe 2xLP edition with CD that includes free downloads of High Road and (on 6/3) Chimes At Midnight. I'm not sure if there's going to be a CD/DVD edition this time around.

Yeah, that was one of the biggest pieces of shit ever.

Blood Mountain and Crack The Skye both had in-depth in the studio footage.

Another massive one for Once More Around The Sun would make up for lack of one last time around.

The teaser for Chimes at Midnight sounds really good, definitely loving the studio version. The live version was fantastic in person, but it's tough to remember it completely.

Agreed. When I saw them live, I had a hard time remembering it too, but I knew that it was Chimes at Midnight because it was the only song in the set that I couldn't recognize straight away.

Chimes was good, but I'll have to listen to it a lot before it sticks in my head.

So, after hearing about this band so much over the years and attempting to get into them, they just didn't stick barring a song or two that still I rarely listened to. But earlier today I decided to spin The Hunter since it's the only album I have from them on CD and I was doing a little reorganizing with my music collection. I absolutely loved it! It was weird, I usually am very meticulous about how I listen to new albums, especially if it's from a band I'm not quite into yet...but have that feeling that I could be. Sitting there in the middle of my CD-strewn room, it's a mess, and I just popped it in the stereo and sat there on the floor listening (got a new bass set so it was a perfect first album to test 'em out). The whole way through, it was a ride.

I really love the mix of the few screaming vocals that there were and the clean, but still very much metal vocals (not that I have a problem with growls/screams, I know most of their backcatalog is); naturally, I think that Blasteroid is my favorite off the album, followed closely by Thickening...and Stargasm...and The Sparrow...and Spectrelight...Bedazzled Fingernails...so many feels from so many songs!

So with that, I'm glad that these two new awesome songs (I like Chimes a bit more) are along the lines of The Hunter. I've yet to really check out much of their earlier material barring a few songs here and there. I'm excited to start the journey right before a new album!

Yeah I would work backwards from The Hunter - that way they get a bit more metal and screamy as you go .

Hunter - Crack The Skye - Blood Mountain.

Then

Leviathan - Remission - Call Of The Mastodon.

The Mastodon Facebook page has shared it directly on Facebook (thus no Youtube). Can you view that one April? Here you go: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152500334527948&set=vb.5748157947&type=2&theater

I went to see the Sonisphere-festival in Oslo this sunday.
Mastodon fucking kicked my ass!!  :metal The sound was perfect, and they put on a hell of a good show! I overheard a bunch of Metallica-fans after their set, and people was absolutely blown away.
The sad thing was that every warm-up band before Metallica only got to play 30-minutes. Ridicoulus! A band as good and big as Mastodon deserve at least 40 minutes!
Ghost, Gojira and Mastodon got 30 minutes. Slayer got 40 minutes, and Metallica played for 2,5 hours. Bullshit..
However, Mastodons set was short and sweet, and got me wanting much more. Ill defenitely see them in the winter!

Their set was:
Black Thounge
Divinations
Crystal Skull
Chimes at Midnight
High Road
Aqua Dementia

They have done a really good job splitting up the vocals. Brann and Troy have taken over some of the more difficult vocal-parts from Brent. Brent sang the more raspy clean stuff, and sounded better than ever. Troy have really stepped up his perfomance! He sang his parts flawlessly. Brann is probably the best singer of them all though. Perfect!
Even Bill have started doing clean backup vocals, and sounded great!
The new stuff are really good live-songs. Lots of headbanging and sing-along going on!
50.000 people, perfect weather, perfect sound, perfect performance!

10/10!

Eh, the new song was okay... Maybe it will grow on me with some more listens, but I'd say at this point High Road made a better first impression on me.

I wasn't huge on Spectrelight first time I heard it but still love The Hunter so we'll see.

One medium song does not a bad album make.

Even if this album is "meh" overall - it's still a better track record than other bigger bands.

I had to listen to High Road when it came out but I'm saving the rest for album drop... just want to experience the rest at once. High Road was enough promise for me. Can't wait to hear the album! :metal

This band has been on fire for about 5 releases in a row now. They have turned into one of my favorite modern metal bands.

Love both of the new songs.
