New interview with Bill: https://loudwire.com/mastodon-bill-kelliher-once-more-round-the-sun/

Looks like the next single will be "Chimes at Midnight."

Not that "High Road" was bad, but I was pretty disappointed with it since it sounds like a Hunter B-side for the most part and the chorus is kinda weak. Hopefully this one'll be better.

Neat title. I wonder what that song will sound like?

It's cool that they're writing more song based structures for this one.

They're gonna get called sell outs of course.

But selling out can also mean putting out the same album every time because you know it will sell - like Slayer.

Well isn't that exactly what they did with The Hunter?

It sounds like it will be even more traditional on this album.

I kinda hope not. I'm hoping for something more akin to Blood Mountain, in that it's a nice blend of wackiness and traditional music. I do see them moving more and more into clean vox only territory, aside from the regular Scott Kelly cameo though.

EDIT: Just found this summarization of the album. Not a full-on tracklist, but it seems like it'll be something like this:

1. Tread Lightly
2. High Road
3. The Motherload
4. Chimes at Midnight
5. Halloween
6. Aunt Lisa
7. Diamond in the Witch House

I'm guessing there'll be another two or three songs in the final tracklist.

Yeah it's supposed to be an hour long with no really long songs.

That's not quite what I've heard... Diamonds in the Witch House is over eight minutes long and the band said that a lot of the songs were going to be over five minutes long at one point.

Agreed. It appears that that particular song might be the standout track on the album. Very eager to hear it! :metal

Opening with Hearts Alive? BEAST. :tup :hefdaddy But I'm not entirely surprised, considering the band has said that they were going to bring out some older material for this tour while we wait for the new album.

Hopefully we'll get footage of Chimes at Midnight soon! :metal

I've been rocking out to 'High Road' quite a bit, but once in a while I still give 'Remission' a spin. I just love how this band continues to evolve. It's sure possible to dig one style over the other, or even hate one, but they're creating a very diverse (while very strong overall) discography.

Yes. This will be their 6th full length album over all and each one has it's own signature sound. I have a feeling Once More Round The Sun will be the least progression so far but still different enough than the previous album.

Just got back from seeing these guys live, it was fantastic. High Road and Chimes at Midnight were fantastic live and gave me great hope for the new album (not that I didn't have any!)

Either way, 'twas an awesome show. Kvelertak and Gojira were supporting and they did great as well. The highlights of Mastodon's setlist were easily Oblivion, Hearts Alive, Megalodon, Capillarian Crest, Blasteroid, and the two new ones. It was awesome.

Completely agreed! It sounded like a wonderful blend of the heaviness of Blood Mountain and the atmosphere of Crack the Sky! :hefdaddy

On a related note, apparently the folks running the band's official fan club page on Facebook have already gotten to hear the album and have been raving about it. Here's the big comment they made about it two days ago:

Quote
After the twentieth time that I listen to "Once More Round the Sun", i can tell you that this album reminds me a lot Crack the Skye but with a new approach which makes this record unique and....
so catchy, so warm, so proggy!

Mastodon wrote Crack The Skye for a year .

They said this time they worked on it even longer...  :omg:

Can't friggin wait.

And as someone else pointed out - they are considering recording 30 minutes of new material and releasing a new full length next year instead of the EP.

Making it chronologically and discography wise their "Load" & "Reload"...  **

I have complete faith that Mastodon will release two fantastic albums - the 2nd of which won't henceforth be considered " the leftover shit ".

Either way - More Mastodon is no bad thing.

** And their 7th full length in 15 years...

Reminds me of seeing St. Anger in CD shops. It stood out a mile.

I really love the cover for St. Anger if nothing else.

( i do like the album too but that's another thread ).
