I'm pretty sure the only album I would rank it under would be Leviathan.

I still love it. I don't play it as much as I did when it first came out, but it's incredibly solid.

2. Blood Mountain
3. The Hunter
4. Leviathan
5. Remission

The Hunter is great, will probably beat Blood Mountain eventually. But yeah, CtS? Nah, not going to touch that.

I reckon The Hunter is a really great album to not listen to attentively. Not quite at the ambient level, but I find it gets a bit...difficult to sit down and listen to. Having it on in the car though, hot damn.

That pretty much sums it up. Individually most of the songs have stacked up really well but as a whole it gets a bit tedious. Maybe because there's so many goofy, off-beat songs I can take before having to switch to more serious Mastodon.

This. The album averages 4 out of 5 for me (4 = awesome on my scale), but I get bored after a few songs. The drawn out style on CTS engaged me far more.

Did Dillinger get a shit reaction everywhere or was it just Boston? Probably 5 people in the whole venue clapped when they finished their set. I only caught the last two songs of their set because I was uh... welll........ :hat

No, in Chicago people just stood.  It annoyed me so much, a lot of people were whiteknighting their girlfriends and 3 kids were two stepping.  They put on a fantastic performance regardless.

Okay, that's cool and all, but it's a shame they sucked and were obnoxious as all hell on stage.

I completely understand when bands put forth a ton of energy when on stage playing their musics, but I find it fairly obnoxious when the musicians (and I had this same issue when watching The Ocean perform) are all jumping like fuckin' maniacs, kicking the air, swinging their instruments around, jumping on the front monitors (and almost kneeing me in the face while doing so), and so on. It just seems...annoying.

But it's cool, different strokes. I still loved how when I saw them a few weeks back, this fat, old school metalhead wearing a Motorhead shirt just looked at me, made a "hmmph" noise, shook his head and walked away. I didn't see him the rest of the show.  :lol

I had heard of them before, but always assumed they weren't my cup of tea. I thought the two songs I heard live were pretty good, and I did like their energy.... but I agree with lat, they were kind of obnoxious. Including leading the crowd in a chant of "you fucking suck", which is tacky and just made me roll my eyes.

I was wondering how they weren't hitting people in the face since the singer was spinning his microphone in an arc over the audience, and it seemed dangerously close to a few faces.  :lol

I'M SEEING MASTODON TONIGHT!  OMG SO EXCITED!

So I have a few questions first.  The show, according to the venue, starts at 5:30.  That's really fucking early.  Then the opening bands are billed as "some band, Dillenger, Red Fang, and MORE"  Just how many openers are there going to be? :P

There was only Red Fang, Dillinger, and Mastodon for me, and we missed Red Fang due to Chicago's fucking awful traffic   :'(

So for this show (I'm guessing because it was the last show of the tour) they had FIVE openers.  We missed Monstro, saw a bit of Tiger! Tiger! (female-fronted alt-rock stuff.  It was all right), Red Fang, Dillinger (wasn't a bit fan of the music, but the singer did a good job of getting the crowd worked up), and then Black Lips (pretty much straight punk).  A very eclectic mix, to be sure.  Well, Mastodon did play, and they rocked the faces off of everyone.  I managed to get in the pit for Megalodon, Spectrelight, and Blood and Thunder.  It was a lot more fun than I expected it to be.  You could see Troy was struggling a bit with the clean vocals halfway through the show, but from what I could tell he was never really "bad," if that makes sense.  Also, for "Creature Lives," they got a bunch of their family members and the opening bands, dressed them up in monks robes, and got them on stage to sing along.  They also released green balloons at the end.  It was really cool to see.  Fucking heaviest show I've been to.
