I got the CD/ DVD package for £9 so an extra £1.98 is nothing really.

I got mine for $15 so I'm alright with $2 added on.  :tup

I bought mine at Hot Topic for $9.99 so two dollars seems good for two songs  :).

First time I bought something there in years  :lol

Song ranking time!

Stargasm
Octopus Has No Friends
Creature Lives
Black Tongue
All the Heavy Lifting
Blasteroid
The Hunter
Curl of the Burl
The Sparrow
Spectrelight
Bedazzled Fingernails
Dry Bone Valley
Thickening

That was actually really hard.

I've only gotten to listen to it once, plus I don't know if I could possibly rate the songs, I love them all so much.

The songs are all too good to be placed in "order". I never pick a song at the moment.

I usually just start from black tongue and stop after The Sparrow ( duh ).

Usually i've memorised the running order for new albums by now but this is taking longer since I just listen to it and don't really

Pay attention to what the song is called..

Here we go. This is a tough one!

Octopus Has No Friends
Blasteroid
The Hunter
Black Tongue
Creature Lives
Bedazzled Fingernails
Stargasm
Curl of the Burl
All the Heavy Lifting
Spectrelight
The Sparrow
Thickening
Dry Bone Valley

The funny thing is, the four lowest ranked songs are great as well! I never skip them!  :D

Amazing album, not a single bad song on it. There is no way in hell I could realistically rank songs on this album.  It's definitely in my top 5 for the year so far, and could be a top 3 album.

I'm pretty sure all of the songs are interchangeable in their ranks since they're all so awesome, except for Stargasm. That one will remain my favorite.

Yeah, I was really pissed about this too, the DVD is therefore basically worthless.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

It has Deathbound's music video too though.. and something else I can't remember.
I LOVE  how well they mixed clean vocals with growls in this album.  THE DYNAMICS HOLY SHIT.

Crack the Skye remains the better album for me.

I think this, but the new album is still really awesome.

Mastodon has the prog crowd AND the modern metal crowd. I can't believe they didn't sell more.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

From their Facebook:

"Don't miss Mastodon on "The Late Show with David Letterman" tonight on CBS, where they'll perform 'Curl of the Burl' live. The show starts at 11:35pm/10:35 central."

I'm not.  This album deserves the sales more than DT's did.  Plus, as UMH said, they have progheads and modern metal fans (and opening for Metallica a bajillion times doesn't hurt your popularity).  And it helps that this album is just another masterpiece in their catalog.  Plus, this is their most accessible album, so those who heard the full youtube stream (great damage control against leaks, btw.  Take note, Roadrunner!) probably liked it enough to buy a copy.

EDIT: Cool to see them on Letterman again.  I remember watching them play "Oblivion" back in 2009 and Letterman commented on how "terrified" he was and then the camera panned to Brent.  :lol

I like the new album a lot. I prefer Crack the Skye, but it's really a little unfair to compare it to CtS, because to me, that was one of the finest albums released in the progressive/metal genres in the last 15-20 years.

Can't wait to see them live next month.

After a few more spins I like but don't love this album. I feel like I'm in the minority here but there's way too many songs that are just okay. Seems more like a B-side collection the more I listen to it.

I kind of agree. I still think Black Tongue, Curl and Stargasm are incredible, but the rest doesn't really compare. Not that it's bad by any stretch, still a great album.

I wouldn't say that it sounds b-side-ish. But I think the totality of the tracks doesn't measure up with what is on CtS.

And to me, that's ok. CtS was one of those special records.

Respectfully I'd have to disagree, listening through this album each and everytime, every song pulls me in and has its own special connection that makes it what it is, Each track is chock full of great things which makes it a full listen through everytime as  Idon't want to skip any songs.

I feel the only songs on the Hunter that aren't ZOMGORGASMIC are Thickening, Bedazzled Fingernails, and Creature Lives.  They're good songs, but the others on the album are all 5-star level.
