Roots Remain is quickly becoming one of my favorites, if not my favorite song on EOS.

Same here... that song immediately clicked with me, it's one of my favorite Mastodon songs now :metal

I'm so pleased with the album as a whole; my excitement for it has not died down at all. I still think it's their best album since Crack the Skye without a doubt.

I agree. Both The Hunter and OMRTS have a few songs I'm meh about but Emperor is great from start to finish :metal (and I still love OMRTS very much)

So the Mastodon concert last night was balls out rockin'  :metal

I probably shouldn't post the setlist, to avoid spoilers, but suffice it to say, the songs off the new album translated well to a live setting. Especially, Roots Remain! I was somewhat disappointed that Brent seemed sober. I waited all night for him to trainwreck but he hit every cue and he actually sounded good singing.  :lol  I guess the only negative criticism I have was that Brann really needs to wear a head mic. The first several words from each line he sings are inaudible because he's so busy drumming that his mouth isn't up to the overhanging mic.

Their stage was top notch and was actually similar to DT's Astonishing tour stage. Pretty cool stuff.

I could do without the warm up bands, but my daughter really enjoyed Eagles of Death Metal.

I hope Brent can go straight edge because if mastodon splits for any reason - it'll be because of Brent's drunken / druggie antics.

Bill quit the booze - Brent should too.

They nailed Bill's tone. I guess the signature stuff helps a ton.
Also that flying V is (like 99% of them) disgusting.

That was really cool, a couple of those riffs sounded spot on in terms of tone.

When they both played Blood and Thunder it was 100% spot on.

Also - Brent is his second name - his first name is William - same as William Kelliher.

They did a Dream Theater :P

And is it just me - or can you tell that Bill is Irish ? There's something in the eyes I think. Plus being called William.

Twelfth and final part of the Emperor of Sand series going up today.

It's a great way to stretch out the interest and marketing in the album and keep it in the spotlight.

Otherwise the album would come out and that would be it.

I'm frustrated. I became a Mastodon fan with Crack the Skye (thanks to a recommendation here when the album came out). loved the records that followed, saw them live, and Emperor of Sand...its good...but I'm just not blown away. I want to be, I'm just not.

Maybe give it a couple more listens? For me, this is easily their best release since Crack the Sky.

Been listening once every couple of days. Everything is good, it's not that it is bad by any means. But it's just not blowing my mind. Strange.

For me its not that I have to be blown away by the music. Its more as long as I enjoy the music I'm hearing.

I think there's a scene in episode 10 or 11 where Brann stands behind Troy making fun of his singing face :lol

But then what will happen to the high as fuck Brent interviews? That's the best part of the band.

If you've seen bootlegs from this tour, he actually seems a lot more focused. His vocals have definitely improved on the clips I've seen (not GREAT, but he it seems like he really tries).

You sound like those Metallica fans who wish Het would get drunk again as he wrote his best stuff before sober...

( conveniently forgetting he was still an alcoholic when he wrote Load & Reload - the albums they claim to hate :p )

I'd much rather he was healthy and happy VS being high and drunk and putting himself in danger.

I do feel that if the band were to end it would be because of something stupid Brent has done.
