I suppose you just need to get used to them  :P I'm like that too with other bands. Some good non-screaming songs are Black, and pretty much everything off The Crusade (but be warned about the Hetfield-style singing  :lol ). They make good instrumental interludes like Ashes  :heart, Ensnare The Sun, A View of Burning Empires...

Gadough

Usually I get annoyed when people dislike harsh vocals. But in the case of Matt's, I can see why they might be a problem. They fit the music perfectly, but they're very "in your face"....honestly Bosk, for what little I know of your music taste, I can't see you ever getting used to them. I doubt you'll ever be able to like Trivium.

bosk1

Yup.  You may be right.  But we'll see.  Maybe the live experience will win me over.

Yeah Watch The World Burn is one of my favourites from the new album, and I'm not a big fan of screamed vocals in general - even when they are not bad and fit, I prefer them in moderation, if at all.

fadetoblackdude7

So far, nothing from the new album has stood out as amazing to me, except for Caustic Are The Ties That Bind......that is a GOOD song!!

Maybe it needs to grow on me, idk

russellmania

man i just can't get into these guys.  What is like...their best album?  I'm willing to try.

Personally, though, I think the best thing they ever did was help Sanctity get a record deal.

Gadough

Ascendency is their best album, but if you're looking to get into them, you're should listen to Shogun.

Either Ascendancy or Shogun

In Waves isn't really a good song to judge the band to be honest

probably not - they've got far better songs than this.

Edit: In Waves (the song) is nothing without Capsizing The Sea as the intro  ;)
so true - is it annoying that i honestly found this intro one of the only cool and interesting things on the album? The rest just seemed to go on a bit and sounded, dare I say it, very 'samey'. There were of course a few stand out tracks but nothing that really compared to the varied Shogun etc. Perhaps it needs a few more listens.

Kotowboy

:censored Love In Waves. It's easily my album of the year ( so far ). And easily my favourite TriVium album.

The guitar tone and production is just killer.

I have something to say....

DUSK DISMANTLED :metal :metal

I've said it already, but that song absolutely fucking CRUSHED live. I headbanged so hard I thought I was gonna pass out.

bosk1

Okay, still not overly crazy about a lot of the screamy stuff.  But I have to say, listening to the actual CD on a decent set of headphones is winning me over.  This album is pretty good.  (And the screamy vox actually do sound cool here and there, such as on Dusk Dismantled)  Still thinking either Watch The World Burn or Black might be the best song on the album, but too early to tell.  Either way, I've gone from not really liking these guys at all to where this album may make my top 10 of the year.

bosk1

I r sad.  Apparently, Gadough does not think I am worthy enough for him to comment.  :(

It's OK. He told me again and again I should buy the album, and then when I did he just kinda started ignoring me whenever I would talk about it and today he didn't even invite me to skype with him.

On a serious note, for me it's the normal singing that kinda bring Trivium down for me. I think the band is much better when they just stick to growling, even though I'm not a huge fan of that style of vocals. I mean, listening to "Chaos Reigns" on decent headphones. Do the growls really bring it down that much?

Also, this album's weird. The songs I liked the least are becoming fast-favorites, and vice versa. I'm all about "Dusk Dismantled" now.

Bedwetting Cosmonaut

I still haven't even heard the new album. Is it as good as Ascendancy?

Perpetual Change

This an Ascendancy are the only two albums I have. Ascendancy is better by a mile.

Yea, considering everything they've made since that one (except the new one because I haven't heard it) has been pretty bad, I think I'll have to take your word for it.

On Watch The World Burn, I can't unhear the misheard lyric, "We are the awesome!"  :lol

So, I'll probably be seeing these guys again. I'm not a massive fan but for 15 bucks and a 2 mile road trip, it's worth it just to watch the insanity.

ACID_FOX

Bosk, check out The Crusade, there's no screaming on it and despite what most people say it's a killer album.

Haha what? I just never noticed the thread got bumped and didn't see the new replies. :lol

It's good that you're getting into them though. :tup

Guess not. I mean, I don't even have a lock of Matt Heafy's or John Petrucci's hair.

If Mastodon's been done before I think I'd prefer to do Trivium. Sorry to be awkward, but would that be ok?

Yeah man, if you can rally some voters. A bunch of survivors have either recently finished or are soon to finish, so we're gonna need some new ones starting up soon.

So uh. Trivium survivor anyone?

Gadough, I have to hand it to you.  This band easily wins the "Has Grown On Me The Most This Year" award.  At least for In Waves--I haven't checked out any of their older stuff.  I'm spinning this album a lot.
