The Pulp Fiction Appreciation Thread
« on: May 20, 2011, 05:21:44 AM »
It deserves its own thread.  You know it.  I just watched the restaurant scene on YouTube and I said to myself, "Yep.  Still fucking awesome."

Appreciate and discuss, if there is anything left to discuss that is. :P

Some people think it's overrated but I think it's QT's best.

One of the coolest movies I've seen. I love QT's movies, the man knows how to write a dialogue.

I don't dig on swine.

Saw it 5 times in the theaters.  Still can't get enough of this movie.  Plus I love the way the girl says Butch.

One of the first movies I saw as an older person and loved. It speaks to the general excellence in Tarantino's work that I'm not sure I can say PF is my favorite of his films (though it might well be).

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee."

:tup One of my favorite movies of all time.  My favorite vignette is "The Gold Watch."  I love Bruce Willis as Butch, and I also love his weird French girlfriend!  "Shut up fathead I hate that Moongaloid voice!"  "Somebody's gonna get killed alright!  Somebody's gonna get their mothafuckin head blown off!!"

So much amazing dialogue, so many incredibly well-drawn and bizarre characters, such brilliant screenwriting.

I love how, because it's told in a non-linear way, it "ends" with Jules and Vincent walking happily out of the diner after you've seen Vincent get blown away.  And they're wearing the goofy clothes they changed into at Jimmie's after The Wolf helped them clean up the car and stuff.

The first couple times, I caught it partway through and had no idea what was going on.  The first time I actually watched it from the beginning, everything clicked into place, but I don't know if that would've happened if I hadn't seen parts of it already and had a chance to come to grips with the way the story is told.  I can understand people being massively confused and thus not liking the movie very much.

I love this movie, even though Reservoir Dogs is my favorite Tarantino film.

Z's dead, baby, Z's dead.
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

I had seen this picture before seeing the movie. Upon seeing the movie, I had to pause it because of how hard I was laughing.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

The guy that Jules strikes down with great vengeance and furious anger... is his name "Brett" or "Brad"?  When he first comes in Jules calls him Brett but then later on he says "Check out the big brain on Brad".  So which is it?  Is it a mistake or is Jules just fucking with him on so many levels?

There's way too many great moments in this movie but one I really like is the car clean-up scene and more specifically "I'm a mushroom-cloud-laying mother fucker, mother fucker" and when they're washing their hands and Jules gets back a used maxipad.

The whole movie is gold.
