The Setup
Lots of threads suggest you create a dream setlist of some kind. Maybe it's epic, maybe it's really long, or maybe it's supposed to be intentionally bad. Because I love to do the same things as other people (he said without irony), I present yet another thread where you make up a setlist, but with a twist.
The basic premise is simple, choose at most three Dream Theater studio albums to draw the songs from (or the closet, see below). Did you always want to imagine a DT concert that begins with A Nightmare to Remember (BCSL), closes out the first set with The Spirit Carries on (SFAM), ends the second set with Octavarium (8vm), and has Metropolis (I&W) as the encore? Well too bad, this thread clearly isn't for you, because those songs come from four different albums.
You might be asking an obvious question now: "What if I want to put Raw Dog into my set? Since it's not on any of the studio albums, does that mean I can't?" Er...oh... wait, I'm still the only one who likes Raw Dog? Okay, well some of you probably want to use ACOS, right? Okay, now I have your attention back. All the songs not on the main ten DT studio albums are in another group I'm calling "The Closet":
A Change of Seasons
You Or Me
Don't Look Past Me
To Live Forever
Eve
Raise the Knife
Where Are You Now
The Way it Used to Be
Cover My Eyes
Speak to Me
Raw Dog
Another Won
Your Majesty
A Vision
Two Far
Vital Star
March of the Tyrant
The Closet presents a conundrum. Most of the songs are at least semi-obscure, but you have so many choices. What is one to do? You decide!
Other rules:
- 2 hour 40 minute max running time. Basically this is a three hour show with 20 minutes of intermission.
- You can use live or demo versions of any song from any album you choose. So, for example, if you choose FII as one of your albums; you can use the Budokan Hollow Years, or the Making of FII TAMP. But not Raise the Knife, because that's in The Closet.
