Pretty sure the OP asked what peoples' favorite key changes were, not if they found them to be an acceptable musical device and under what circumstances (if any) they're deemed acceptable.

That said, I love the key change in Rainbow's "Since You Been Gone".

I'm a big sucker for melody and harmonies and the key change in this song is the stuff I gravitate to.

2:45 in.  It's the bridge but I just love this key change leading into the solo.

Ha thanks! I don't have a problem with discussing key changes and their validity, but I was just hoping to have a little fun too!

What about Sisqo - Thong Song  :rollin

The first that came to my mind was Darkest Hours by Stratovarius, the last chorus sounds so epic with the key change! :metal

Forgot about this one, this is classic.

What are some of the greatest key changes in music?

Michael Jackson - Man in the Mirror
Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer

oh and sorry if this is a repeat topic, I hadn't seen it before and did a search and found nothing.

I was a huge Bon jovi fan and love LOAP even if it suffers from overexposure, buut JBJ struggles to sing the song, then they go even higher!

Dunno.  I saw them a few years ago and he sounded great on it.  And they didn't even downtune it.

I've been playing "I Get Around" by the Beach Boys over and over. I love the key change in there.  :heart :heart

Sigur Rós - Untitled 3

slashthread

EDIT: never mind, someone already explained that this doesn't change key.

I agree with the subtle ones. Listen to anything by the Beach Boys. he's able to just move in and out of keys without you noticing. Great examples are The Girls on the Beach, Dance, Dance, Dance, Anything on Pet Sounds but especially Wouldn't It Be Nice and I Just Wasn't Made For These Times.

My theory is that teh progerz is teh porgerz as thus it's a must the has to fuck shit up.
It feels kind of weird saying this out loud, but...Scott is exactly right.

Look up two posts  I've been on a huge Beach Boys kick lately, but the key change in I Get Around in particular gets me every single time.

Well yeah, that's more of a standard modulation, which is not to say that I don't love that song! But I'm always impressed more by the ones you really don't notice unless you're listening closely, in which case you say "How in the hell did he just do that?!" Which i say quite frequently when listening to the Beach Boys, no matter how many times I've heard the songs haha

That's true, the one in Wouldn't It Be Nice is nice and subtle. But I am just obsessed with "I Get Around" lately for some reason... even though the key change is much more linear, it just fits so perfectly. Brian Wilson just wrote perfect pop music.  :tup

I also  :heart The Jam o/

I'm surprised that one hadn't been mentioned in this thread before, actually, it's basically a classic example of key changes working well.

Exactly! I'm sure they have a few more in their songs, but that's the one that instantly popped up.
