I'm guessing a "regular" sound card would still be better for general listening than the specialized one in the iPod.  Again, the card in the iPod is optimized for listening over earphones.

But my point is that even when listening over earphones the specialized one in the iPod sounds crappier than the general one in my laptop. Am I really that bad at explaining?? :D

If you mean the DAC in the ipod is crap, it's true. if I play the same song with the same earphones on my brothers iaudio, or my sansa, or my ipod, it's very clearly iaudio>sansa>>ipod
