Prayer Request and Organ Donation
« on: May 06, 2011, 10:52:41 AM »
A close member of my wife's family had surgery two days ago. He is currently in a Houston hospital in a coma awaiting a new heart. I have traveled with, and fly fished with this guy many times. He is fairly young, (born with a congenital heart defect), and has taken great care of his body his entire life. He doesn't drink, drug, or eat ANY junk food. He's a fairly well known guitarist, and a graduate of Berklee; and has a wonderful family. His family needs a lot of prayer and good thoughts right now. Your prayers would be appreciated.

He also needs, like I said, a new heart. This is the critical component, because unless a heart is found fairly soon, he won't make it. So, here's another request in addition to the prayer. Unless you have some religious reason for not doing so, please sign up to become an organ donor. There are approximately 4,400 people added to donation lists each month in the U.S.. and only about 2,300 actually get an organ transplant. If everyone signed up to be an organ donor, EVERYONE who needed an organ would get one. It's a pretty simple fact. God forbid if something happened to you prematurely, you'd be helping others who really need it.

Thanks!

I've been signed up as an organ donor since I first got my license. No reason not to be really. I said a prayer for your friend. I hope everything works out for him.

My thoughts are with you, and I've been signed as an organ donor since day one(not that anyone would want my abused organs).

Thinking good thoughts.

I'm an organ donor. My friend who passed away last November was too. At the funeral they told me that everything he donated went to someone who needed it, including stuff like his corneas. That was great to know and made all of us feel a little bit better.

Tempus, my thoughts are with your friend. I hope everything works out.

I'm an organ donor too, although much like lonestar and wkiml, probably the only part of us worth preserving are our brains.

I haven't signed my driver's license for it yet..

For some reason I have an irrational fear that if I was in a coma or something they might pull the plug early on me for my organs

After 30 plus Dead shows, I doubt anyone would want mine.

Somebody has to preserve that knowledge and experience for future generations.  Might as well be someone with an intimate knowledge of good music and bacon.

I'm an organ donor, but probably a useless one. With my smoking, I doubt any would benefit from my lungs or heart. Ah well, there's still some other useful stuff inside me.
Listen! Do you smell something?
