I think it's kinda logical.
After all there's a difference in the words 'best' and 'favorite', a personal example for me would be that I think BWP is probably Opeth's best album (objectively speaking), but I prefer 4-5 of their other albums over it when it comes to my favorites.
But what does "best" mean? For the overall quality of something, "best" is entirely subjective. If something is my favourite, then to me it is the best.

I get what you mean, but to me 'best' is not the same thing as 'favorite'.
It's pretty hard explaining, because this is a discussion where some people will agree, and the rest will disagree because they feel that 'best' and 'favorite' has the same meaning.

I don't know. It's like, I can see why people think it's one of their best. And I can see the elements there and would think I should like it, too. But I don't.

Okay, I can understand that.  Its an approach I try to make when confronted with something I don't really like.  Its how you can answer the question "How can Lady Gaga be so famous and my favorite progressive metal band can barely get food on the table?"  By looking at why someone likes something that you don't.

BUT that doesn't mean you have to say that its the best as well.  That's just silly.  :P

Well, not their best, probably their 3rd or 4th best.

By the way, my favorite DT albums are 8vm, BC&SL, SDOIT, and ToT, with IaW and Awake right behind those, by a hair. Yet, I think IaW is their best and Awake is their second best.

I am here to piss you off, Matt.

You're not pissing me off.  Just confusing me.  :'(

*reads the part where you rank ToT higher than IAW and SFAM*

Okay, now I mad.

:lol If it helps, it was also my first album getting to know them, so it will always be one of my favorites.
