Again, you all sent real quality stuff, and I learned today that I will be driving 5 days a week to a different city in the fall time for a half hour each way. This should be a great time for me to dive into the bands you all sent.

Thanks for all patience and participation. This was more fun than I thought!

Some are repeats. My goal now (as well as the final round, still waiting on both guys) is to listen to the albums you guys sent from. In fact, I have already started that.

Oceansize - Frames (Quad)

This album is great, great stuff. I've listened 5 or 6 times now. It is a very dense album to me, layers to peel back and explore...and that is a good thing. It gets a little samey for me right now but I can tell I just need to digest it more.

Rating: 9/10

dredg - The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion (Space Invader)

Gooooood stuff. 17 tracks of amazingly catchy melodies. Lyrics on a few songs were questionable at first, but I'm cool. Some of it is filler but in a good way...as transitional pieces. I swear, now I get dredg melodies stuck in my head daily since hearing the whole album.

Rating: 8/10

Next to listen to (because I dl'ed the albums already, though with no rhyme or reason):

Pure Reason Revolution - The Dark Third
Mew - Frengers
The Dear Hunter - Act Whatever it was Ariich :lol
Katatonia (actually haven't downloaded but I am seeing them in October with Opeth, so I may as well start some listening)

I will get through all the artists eventually, it could take a year! I want to give all the albums honest and repeated listens.

You're a fucking stupid bitch.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

James, listen to El Cielo when you can. It's a lot denser of an album, but I think it's easily their best.

I've heard many good things about El Cielo and Catch Without Arms. I want to wait a while on those, though, but trust me, I will get to those at some point in time...wanna get through this list of awesome bands. :lol

Also, thanks for the recs on other albums, please do let me know when I post what other albums are considered good, really appreciate that!

glad you like Frames!

SI and CS have sent their submissions. Ariich, I presume I'm not holding anyone up on their roulettes starting, right? Busy week ahead of me and I want to not rush it.

For the record.

Sepultura was never sent.

The song I sent for the metal:intensity round was in fact -

PANTERA - Domination (live)
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

Here are the albums I sent songs from (where it's not my favourite by them, I've added my favourite in brackets):

The Dear Hunter - Act III: Life and Death [2009]
God is an Astronaut - God is an Astronaut [2008]
Freak Kitchen - Organic [2005] (Dead Soul Men [2000])
In Flames - Come Clarity [2006] (Colony [1999])
Dmitri Shostakovich - Piano Concerto No. 2 (find a decent recording of it)
Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me [2010]
Green Day - Nimrod [1997]
Haken - Aquarius [2010]

They're not all the best albums by those bands or artists though.

That reminds me, the Emilie Simon album is the OST she did for March of the Penguins, so it's not an official album or the one I'd recommend first.

The next time you're in your local Best Buy and see that huge CD rack of nothing but Emilie Simon albums and a huge cardboard cut-out of her person, I recommend getting Vegetal first. I'm sure you're salivating at the thought of hearing a full album by her.
