Well, hopefully good for me.
Don't care much about what the others score.

Nah but seriously, can't wait for the results, and can't wait for the next round.  :tup

I figured out the rankings. Even the song that got last place was still a winner in my book. This was truly tough. Rankings in an hour or so!

You guys don't even know. I loved every song. So much so that ranking was the toughest it has been, because it was a pretty even playing field for everyone. But I figured out a ranking. I know someone will be pissed. But that is the nature of the game!

Top Pick: Zantera
Band: Periphery
Song Name: The Walk

This song! It had me at the intro, which was pounding and so musically interesting. It was aggressive but it was also musically satisfying. It was also just so brutal. This is music that gets me at the forefront, stuff I really like. Awesome awesome awesome.

Second Place: Ariich
Band: In Flames
Song Name: Take This Life

This could have easily been the top pick. It was tough, believe me. This song was relentless, man. Oh my goodness, but it was melodic as well and it really had me headbanging. Win.

(funny aside: When I went through the first listen, I was drinking tea and I started headbanging, and I somehow had this picture of you headbanging in a nice, eloquent room with a white sweater on, drinking tea and eating British food. Oh, stereotypes :lol )

Next Three:(+6 pts.)

-Kari
Band: And So I Watch You From Afar
Song Name: Set Guitars to Kill

This song could have also easily have been in one of the top spots. I listened to it before I read that you believe it's not metal, but I did think it was metal right away and throughout, so I am counting it as metal, sorry. But regardless, this was amazing. Such cool music...the intro was pounding and it was just a lot of crazy music that sounded a bit mean. Amazing pick.

-Space Invader
Band: Gustav Holst
Song Name: Mars, the Bringer of War

+1 for not metal/hard rock (it's classical, if anyone cares)

This piece fascinates me on several levels. It was all you aid it would be, and I loved it. The arrangements of the brass and odd time was brilliant. It had me the whole way through, and it wasn't repetitive...very progressive piece. I want to check out the whole suite.

-Ravenheart
Band: Emilie Autumn
Song Name: Opheliac

(Allowing because it's a different album from the other submission)
+1 for not metal

This was so good, and had so many interesting elements. Her vocals are very diverse and sound crazy at times, but in a good way. The music was also satisfying but you could feel the aggressiveness in it...I know I'm gonna love coming back to this song to hear it again when the roulette ends.

Next 3 (+5 pts.)

-contest_sanity
Band: Believer
Song Name: Idols of Ignorance

Very good thrash metal. Not actually a huge fan of thrash, but this had some killer riffs, and it hit me very well. the solo was great and fit perfectly in the context of the song. Vocals were also great, rough but clean...and I can be picky about thrash metal vocals, so good pick there!

-Quadrochosis
Band: Deftones
Song Name: Prince (Bassnectar remix)

It's hard for me to tell if it wasn't metal...I believe it was, but we can contest that if you'd like. To me, when he starts singing higher, it has a metal feel to it and I think I hear distorted guitars.

But anyway...I loved this song. It was so good, and I love the vocalist. I only know 2 Deftones songs, but this song was a good reminder of why I need to check them out more. I only rated it lower because I liked the others more...this was a great pick. I loved the electronic vibe as well, so good.

-Marvellous G
Band: Bob Dylan
Song Name: Masters of War

+1 for not metal/rock

The only Dylan I know is the well-known stuff from when I was growing up with my parents playing it. This was a very good tune. As it progressed, you could feel the tension mounting, although it was subtle. I really liked it!

Last:(+4 pts.)

-YtseBitsySpider
Band: Sepultura
Song Name: Domination

Don't get me wrong...this was aggression...I felt like I grew 2 extra testicles and I wanted to eat a kitten alive, covered in BBQ sauce. I was just impressed more with everything else. Very good pick!

----------------------------------------------

Standings:

To make things interesting, the bottom 3 contestants will take some of BrotherH's points....the lowest score will get 6 points, 2nd lowest will get 4 points, and third lowest will get 2 points. (+1) indicates the participant sent a nonmetal/rock song in round 4.

Space Invader - 7+5+8+6(+1)=27

Kari - 5+8+7+6=26

Zantera - 6+6+5+8=25

Marvellous G - 4+7+6+5(+1)=23

Ravenheart - 6+5+5+6(+1)=23

Ariich - 5+6+5+7=23

Quadrochosis - 8+4+4+5=21(+2)=23

contest_sanity - 6+4+4+5=19(+4)=23

YtseBitsySpider - 5+5+6+4=16(+6)=22

Brother H - 4+6+6=16

NOW THIS IS INTERESTING MUAHAHA ahem

ROUND FIVE: SAD/MELANCHOLY: However you take that. I like it dripping with emotion, but not cheesy, for the most part (there are exceptions, but they have to be really good). Explain what makes it sad/melancholy. Vocals or none. Lyrics may play a big role as well (also, if you want, it would help to send the lyrics from a site as well). MAKE ME CRY, PEOPLE...GO!

Sweet - I feel like I'm back in the game.

Also, I was very close to sending you "Set Guitars To Kill" in the instrumental round.  Dammit!  Oh well.

Oh man, I'd considered sending you Periphery! But I'm still very happy with second place, glad you dug it so much! If you liked that song then you should definitely check out the album, it's not flawless by any means but there are a lot of really excellent songs on it.

I also considered sending Mars from the Planets suite, but decided it wasn't aggressive enough. :lol

(funny aside: When I went through the first listen, I was drinking tea and I started headbanging, and I somehow had this picture of you headbanging in a nice, eloquent room with a white sweater on, drinking tea and eating British food. Oh, stereotypes :lol )

I'm thinking I will do what you did over the summer...check out albums by the bands sent. Not the entire discog, but the best ones as determined by fans.

That's funny how you thought of 2 other bands that others sent.

ya...I also hummed n hawed over the Periphery...I would have sent Icarus Lives...but that CD has been hugely discussed here so even though it wasn't in your last.fm....I dunno..I figured you probably would have spun it.

it was Pantera - Domination btw.

;)

It doesn't haha

I got way busier with work and school than I thought this week. Like people literally hiring me on the spot to tutor them. I've been away from my computer a lot this week.

Tomorrow should be A LOT freer to finalize everything. I only have to go to the high school to finish my last few hours of interning and turn in all my work to my professor (which is on the way home). Then I can come home, do my last listen through and post results. About 28 hours from now.

Today is another busy day and I actually only came on DTF to let y'all know. :) Thanks for understanding, I hate holding it up.

I just had to tell Ravenheart to send me a different song, as he sent the same song you sent (although an acoustic version). Poor giant indie.
