This round was fantastic. It's hard not to impress me with ambient songs. Alas, I had to rank them, and it was tough to choose the ranks for most of the songs. You guys know some awesome music! Results:

Top Pick: Space Invader
Band: Anathema
Song Name: Thin Air

Gorgeous. That was my first thought after hearing the song. Very strong vocal melodies. It has such an energy about it that is addicting....it's almost an indescribable song, and I mean that in a good way. I want more of this, it is so emotional and beautiful.

Second Place: kari
Band: Eluvium
Song Name: Prelude for Time Feelers

This was so beautiful. I actually played it 2 more times after the first listen because the beautiful piano was just so moving. What else can I say, I loved it.

Next Three:

-Marvellous G
Band: Brian Eno
Song Name: Always Returning I

My friend had always raved about how much he liked Brian Eno, so I'm glad I am getting a submission for this. This song is so soothing, one of those gems that I can see myself putting on repeat for hours and never growing tired of. Just so soothing, how can you feel down with this song? It's impossible. I think he has a lot of music under his belt, am I correct?

-BrotherH
Band: Bass Communion
Song Name: Construct IV

For its length, this was a great track. It flowed very nicely, and the dark and "low" feel of the song was great. Isn't this one of Steven Wilson's projects? I am not much of a fan of PT or his work, but maybe this will help me start to like him, because in theory, I should. I liked the distorted guitars, they basically made the song, IMO.

-YtseBitsySpider
Band: MAXXESS
Song Name: De-Layed

Really cool stuff going on here in this guitar driven song. The man has a very tasteful tone and the backing music is solid and "makes sense" in relation to it all. Very relaxing and good ambient vibe, and the build-up in the middle was excellent.

Next 3

-Ariich, my lady
Band: Freak Kitchen
Song Name: Breathe

This was a great song. Very emotional, and it fit in its time very well, although I felt like it could have developed a bit more as well. I also liked the timbre of the singer's voice. That said, you have me interested to hear more of their material from your description, because I can feel the good songwriting in there somewhere.

-Zantera
Band: Oceansize
Song Name: Legal Teens

(Disclaimer: Allowed the song because it is from a different album)

This didn't hit me the way The Frame had hit me. I mean, it is good and has that style I remember from the other song, but it wasn't as memorable. I still liked it, though, and can see some differences in their sound now. Great pick.

-Ravenheart
Band: Emilie Simon
Song Name: The Frozen World

I really liked this song, don't get me wrong. It had this atmosphere of being "chilly," and it pulls it off very well. I just don't see myself listening to it as often as other stuff in this round. It's hard to rate it down like I did. She has a great voice, and the music was interesting, all those little sounds I found annoying on the first listen, but on the subsequent listens, I really liked them. Good pick!

Last 2:

-Quadrochosis
Band: Sweet Trip
Song Name: To all the dancers of the world, A round form of fantasy

Really cool intro...very electronic and pulled off nicely. The stops and the starts kinda throw me off and throw me off the vibe of the song a little, wasn't a fan of those for the most part. The song got a lot better after the off-time/double-time beat thing in the middle. Very nice emotion. I just think I don't "get" this style of music yet. I'll check it out more (like all the other music) after the roulette.

-contest_sanity
Band: Aaron Sprinkle
Song Name: Motor Cars

Pretty cool song, but it was just kind of there for me. It didn't leave me wanting more of anything really. Good use of electric guitar with no drums or bass, though.

----------------------------------------------

Standings:

Kari - 5+8+7=20

Space Invader - 7+5+8=20

Zantera - 6+6+5=17

Marvellous G - 4+7+6=17

Ravenheart - 6+5+5=16

Quadrochosis - 8+4+4=16

Ariich - 5+6+5=16

YtseBitsySpider - 5+5+6=16

Brother H - 4+6+6=16

contest_sanity - 6+4+4=14

I really like how these scores are coming about...it's making it possible for anyone to win so far. DUN DUN DUN

ROUND FOUR: AGGRESSION. Make me want to kill a small animal, please. You will get an extra point if it is NOT metal/hard rock. Not that I don't like metal or hard rock, because I love it, but I will be impressed to find some aggression on songs not in that genre. That said, I do love some good aggressive metal, so it's fair game, really. Also, tell me WHY it is aggressive to you.

GO!

I might have an idea for the next round.

As for Legal Teens, it's not really the type of song that hits you in the face, it's more very subtle and kinda grows for each listen.
Perfect night-time music at least.  :tup

Glad you liked the Brian Eno track!  :tup I actually have just put it on repeat, followed by Always Returning II, which you should check out, and it's so relaxing. But yeah, he's got an insane amount of material, I still need to check out most of it.  :lol

I'll try and think of a pick by tomorrow. *ponders*

Wow, this round is gonna be tough.  But it is encouraging to see that I am still hanging on.

That Anathema song deserved to win. I don't know if you've heard the album yet, but if not - get is asap. Best album of last year.

It was an amazing experience.

That was my goal, to make it winnable even if you send in some songs that score low.

Not surprised to come in last in that round, since I listen to virtually no ambient music.  Oh well.  Hopefully, I can still make up some ground.

I am actually really excited for this round!  At first I thought I was totally gonna get creamed by these guys, since I really don't have a wide musical library and they do, but I'm really glad to see that I'm hanging in there.

I thought I matched up with The Jamesman pretty well musically.  If I'm last in his, I can't imagine where I'd be in one of the Big Indies' roulettes.  I'd probably have negative points or something.  Here's to hoping AGGRESSION can get me back into this one:

ZENT!!!

No, I student teach in the fall...just doing what is called "Practicum," meaning I rack up 20 hours observation time including teaching 3 lessons. I got placed so late into the Spring semester that I STARTED my hours after everyone was already done and the semester over. Making it all up now, just glad none of it is my fault.

IMPORTANT:

BrotherH has dropped from the roulette and the internet in general, for the time being. I'll figure out how this will affect the roulette. Any suggestions welcome, I'll change the game a bit tomorrow, so post now to suggest how to figure his absence into this.

I don't know about bringing someone else in. Well...it did work very well when I substituted for antigoon in Marvellous G's roulette.

My other option was to just drop him out and disperse his points amongst you guys, but in order from the lowest score to the highest score, with the lowest score getting the biggest share.

People, what should I do? The first paragraph or the second? Would like some opinions...just post in the thread (my inbox is getting full!).

Also, just waiting on Space Invader now.  :millahhhh

And ultimately that's what this is all about.
Not really a winning/losing thing.

I can't speak for others, but personally I wouldn't want to join in the middle of a roulette.
Maybe someone does, and then that's cool, but obviously this is up to Jamesman to decide.
