The Mike Mangini Thread (Thanks & Farewell)
« on: April 29, 2011, 07:32:13 PM »
Welcoming the amazing Mr. Mangini to the DT family!
Somebody posted a few videos of great MM solos/performances in the two big threads but I couldn't find them again today, please share MM youtube videos you found and we'll discuss it.
This is MM on Time Warp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8Gxut0odyc pretty cool.
I love that guy  :D

Picked "Cool, whatever". Minnemann was a lot more fun to watch behind the kit and Jordan mentioning the pure joy he exuded as a positive reflects that. It was more important to find the one who fit in with the band's writing process better so excellent on their part.

I'm definitely happy with DT's choice. He seems to be a great fit and a really fun guy.

I'm extremely happy with DT's unanimous pick of Mangini. He is not only a phenomenal drummer, but a fun and positive guy. Seems to fit like a glove.

He was my top favourite after having watched the auditions, so I'm very glad and excited about them picking him.
Zydar is my new hero.  I just laughed so hard I nearly shat.

I've been hoping for Minnemann ever since I heard Portnoy left, and it was cool to see that he was almost chosen.  I'm sure mike will be a great fit for the band, but I suspect that he will more or less be a Portnoy replacement, whereas Minnemann could have brought something new and exciting to the band.

Anyways, I went with "Cool, whatever".  Mangini is a solid choice.
I'm not sure how literal 'God created man in his own image' is, but it would be pretty crappy if there was a god but he died a while ago of appendicitus.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQTBtkB_mWQ - pure awesomeness during Annihilator's All For You recording sessions... that last fill is just... I don't have words... :omg: :omg:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00GXRzoJbiI&feature=related - another pure awesomeness during one of Mike's clinics, just before DT auditions. Check out especially 2:12.... that one hand...

I'm happy of DT's choice, Mike is a great drummer, I think will fit great into the band. And I think he also is more technically advanced than Mike Portnoy, which in my opinion isn't the most important thing (as I always say that the most important is right chemistry in the band), but that's for sure not a bad thing ;)

The creation and destruction of harmonic and 'statistical' tensions is essential to the maintenance of compositional drama. Any composition (or improvisation) which remains consonant and 'regular' throughout is, for me, equivalent to watching a movie with only 'good guys' in it, or eating cottage cheese.

And I thought MP's kit was huge, this just makes it look very small somehow..

anyone else surprised by the enthusiasm and showmanship he exudes while drumming? didn't know much about him prior to audition footage, but it seems people griping about the lack of stage presence resulting from MP's departure can put their fears to rest. this guy's fun to watch :metal

Mike Mangini has been one of my favorite drummers for many years. i am so stoked that he is now in my favorite band.

Check out some other band/projects he ha s been in This one is called Tribe Of Judah.
Gary Cherone - vocals
Steve Ferlazzo - keyboards
Mike Mangini - drums
Pat Badger - bass, vocals
Leo Mellace - guitar
the band was put togther after Gary Cherone left Van Halen in 1999. Tribe of Judah was very cool band. Mangini had some killer drum parts, at time it may sound like a drum machine but all parts are played by Mike. I have a VHS tape of them doing a show in Boston.. he just blew my mind
