Somebody recommend me a sci-fi TV series
« on: April 24, 2011, 08:54:27 PM »
I'm looking for something along the lines of LOST and Alias, by which I mean a contemporary setting; nothing space age please.  Something with a big, overarching mystery that suggests either sci-fi or fantasy, that in a nutshell is what I'm looking for.

Battlestar Galactica

Along the lines of what you're talking about, Fringe is decent.

@BSG: LOVE the original series but only because it's very cheesy.  Watched the pilot of the reboot and wasn't thrilled with it, probably because I loved the campy feel of the original so much.

Gonna check out Fringe for sure, being the J.J. diehard I am.

Have in mind that Fringe does take some getting used to. There are a lot of cringeworthy moments in season 1 but it gets immensely better from the second on. And the acting throughout is superb.

If you haven't watched V it's pretty good (has the blond chick from Lost). The 4400 - great show if you've missed it.

Fringe is probably what you're looking for.

But yeah, BSG is pretty much the greatest sci-fi series evar.

When I hear scifi I think SG-1/Atlantis/BSG, not shitty drama with crappy stories about monsters and shit.

This, what?

I guess The X Files.  But definitely Fringe.

You could also watch one of the many excellent non-sci-fi shows.

Well sure, I've begun to watch Mad Men, How I Met Your Mother, Game of Thrones, and Big Bang Theory.  I just need something to fill the hole LOST left when I cruised through it last fall.

Fringe all the way SD.  The storyline in the last 2 seasons are amazing.

Dexter used to be excellent until season 3. And until I watched The Wire.

Or watch Boardwalk Empire.  Not sci-fi, but better than every sci-fi series mentioned so far.

More fantasy/supernatural than scifi, but definitely check out True Blood.

Supernatural

That's not the one with the werewolf, the ghost, and other random "spooky" creature living together, is it?  'Cause I saw a preview for that, and all I could think is TV execs are running out of ideas.

Great storyline and like most shows it takes a few years to all click together but then it's intense.
