This a very good friend I've been friends with since I was 13 talking about the tornadoes.  He storm chases ever year.  Very informative.

My grandmother, who lives in Alabama, had a good friend, along with that friend's husband and one of three children, die less than 10 miles away from where my grandmother lives due to tornadoes.  Also, a tornado supposedly a mile wide touched down and wreaked complete havoc on Tuscaloosa.  Terrible.

Terrible hearing about Joplin... EF4 hitting numerous schools and a hospital.

It was pretty bad here last night, had a tornado warning/hail but thankfully no tornadoes.

You doing alright, Kev? (Although it was the opposite side of MO)

I was gonna post about that.  Just terrible, what happened to Joplin.

We are good over here in St. Louis.  We've had some pretty good storms in the last hour or so, but nothing too crazy...yet.

I am sick of this shit. :tdwn :tdwn

Ugh.  My suggestion is, if you have any friends or relatives that have a house with a basement, get over there ASAP and head for the basement the second you hear that the storm is imminent.

Right now, it's all nice and sunny here, and the sky is as blue as it can be, but we are supposed to get storms this afternoon, so we'll see. :(

Seriously? While I've never experienced or lived in an area prone to earthquakes, at least you can run from a tornado or take cover.

I went through an "almost" tornado when living in Atlanta, and the sight of rain going UP scared me more than the '89 Loma Prieta quake, in which I was on the local SF train system. (don't get me wrong, quakes are scary, but after living in the bay for 40 years, I am kind of used to them, anything less than a 5.0 is just an attention getter, and a reason to re-organize your shelves)

Well, I've lived in AZ for 26 years and have only been moderately affected by bad weather.  A funnel cloud that took out a miles worth of telephone poles near our townhouse in the early 90's.  About 6 hours without power.  No biggy really.  Fall 2004, lost a big tree in my yard due to a microburst.  It took out my brick fence by falling away from the house.  Still not really a big deal compared to tornadoes.  I've never really been inclined to live in tornado ravaged states, but I guess someone has to live there.  I'll take the hot summers and allergy problems over tornadoes any day.  I'd rather deal with hurricanes.

Hurricanes are fucking nasty, went through the remnants of one in Altanta, it's like a three day, weak tornado.  And So, Much, Fucking, Rain.

Yo that was the most ridiculous part about living in OK.... NO ONE had basements. And thats probably the best spot for if a tornado hits..

I'm pondering whether or not I should drive all the way over to my parents', since I don't have a basement. I'm sure I could just grab my mattress and hunker down in my bathtub if something were to happen, or go into my crawl space (though that place is fuckin nasty.)

We had some here in Minneapolis. The looting and crime is kind of bad in that area right now, patrols have stepped up quite a bit. The area isn't great to begin with, but it's absolutely sad to see what has happened. I live around 20 miles from Minneapolis, so it wasn't close to home, however I was at work in St. Paul when it happened. Never knew anything was happening

Kind of funny.  Here in Texas when the sirens start going off, our inclination is to grab a beer, a lawn chair, and go outside to watch.  Had a pleasant evening watching the hail come down with the neighbors.  Apparently a tornado went pretty close by, but we never saw anything.  That's kind of how Dallas works.  Horrifying weather conditions that never really amount to much, so we all just chill and watch the show.

In typical Dallas fashion, the warning sirens go off about every five minutes when there's a tornado warning.  It's nearly impossible to take them seriously.
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.
