Jeff Loomis and Van Williams of Nevermore Announce Their Departure
Jeff Loomis and Van Williams of Nevermore Announce Their Departure

Nevermore guitar player Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams have announced their departure from the group. The two have released a joint statement:

“In a mutual decision Jeff Loomis and Van Williams have decided to leave Nevermore. The time has come to pursue our own paths from the group. Due to internal struggles and ongoing issues within the band, we feel it is our time to move on. We would like to thank all of our fans around the world for their years of love, support and enthusiasm. This was not an easy decision but a very necessary one at this point, may we all meet again someday, somewhere in time.”

Loomis and Williams had been with Nevermore since the band’s first album, 1995’s self titled, Nevermore.

NEVERMORE recently announced that they would be cancelling their planned tour with Symphony X. No information regarding additional confirmed tour dates is known at this time.

Fuck...

I can't imagine Nevermore without Jeff Loomis, and I can't imagine Jeff Loomis guitar riffs without Warrel's voice.

This fucking sucks.  :(

Nevermore struck gold with This Godless Endeavor, which is one of the best metal albums ever made IMO.

It's a shame but it's perhaps for the best. As a unit they just didn't do enough work. Their last album was disappointing after a 5 year wait.

Yep, this sucks.  It kind of makes sense though IMO, after releasing that last album.  It seemed super weak to me, in comparison to TGE, DHIADW, etc...  I wonder what Loomis will be doing now?  I can't say I enjoyed his solo work that much.

Its a part of life. Things aren't bound to last forever. As long as the ride was fun and you enjoyed it is all that matters, and you have memories to relive.

I've heard Zero Order Phase, and it's pretty decent (Sacristy is amazing, in particular). I'm just trying to imagine a Jeff Loomis song with vocals that aren't Warrel Dane's, and it's really odd sounding in my head.

it's true, they go together (jeff's guitar and warrell's vox). but still, i'll be following whatever jeff does next, i'm sure it'll be awesome.

ya, i hear ya, man.

i was s'posed to see em twice, 5 months apart (after not seeing em for about 10 years)...i'm quite glad i at least got to see the first of them two 5-months-apart shows. they seemed cool and everything at the meet n greet, but i also got the impression there was some dissention in the band. i'm guessing they werent happy for a while now.

I leave for a week and this happens. Jeff and Warrel were one of the best combinations of musicians ever imo. I guess a silver lining is that they might not feel as held back and will create amazing music on their own. Both of their solo albums were fucking amazing so I know they can still work awesomely with other musicians. But still...

What the fuck is going on lately, bands are falling apart left right and center.  Nevermore are finished, surely.

This exactly! You got Per leaving Opeth, Jesper leaving In Flames, the list is endless! Loomis is/was Nevermore, and Williams' drumming added to it too. They won't survive without them.

Good point about Van's drumming.  Everyone is saying that they can't survive without Loomis, but I think Van is just as important, his drumming was a big part of Nevermore's sound.
