People are entitled to their opinions, just as I am entitled to disagree with them.

The point of a discussion board is to, y'know, discuss things, not stay completely silent because "a hurr hurr subjectivity."

It's not that you have an opinion but how you expressed it.

 One of my least favorite Opeth albums, but I prefer it to ToT, and Opeth won't be winning any other rounds, so I'm glad to see them get their moment of glory here. DT already got theirs with SDOIT.

This.

Your opinion could have been "I liked Damnation better." Instead, it was worded like "LOL DAMNATION TOT SUCKS LOL". OK, not really, but you get what I'm saying.

i'm not anti-damnation by any means, but never would i have expected it to win an album of the year. people sure love their opeth (and porcupine tree) on this forum.

Damnation is far too one-dimensional to earn top spot of the year, but people are just going to make the same argument for TOT so meh

It should have been In Keeping Secrets, Frengers, or Effloresce.

Yeah, the albums have the same weaknesses.

Is it just me, or did DTVT drop the ball on completing this series?

Same. And I have all of my lists finalized except for 2008.

No, last weekend I saw a percipitous drop in participation, so I'm not running them on the weekends (also, I'll be out of town 2 of the next 4 weekends).

Even though it's more work, I'd still like to see more people participate.

I don't know, it seems like it is getting a lot of interest.  For the most part, anyone who is interested is probably gonna post their picks in the first day or two, so leaving it open for like a week in the hopes that more people will post theirs probably isn't realistic.  Just my opinion. :)

I'm not leaving it open a week, I just noticed that when I started the rounds last Friday, participation was real low, so I simply decided to wait until Sunday night/Monday morning to start the next batch.  The forums don't seem to be as busy on weekends, so I thought I was doing everyone a favor by waiting until after the weekend, particularly a holiday weekend.

nah. not only is TOT far less one dimensional, but it is a more accurtate representation of what the band does/is-about.

I don't think either album is that one-dimensional.

Saying that Damnation is one-dimensional is like saying that all of their mellow songs sound the same.  Just because they do both heavy and mellow doesn't mean that there isn't a broad range within one or both of those dimensions, so to speak.

That may be so, but I just find every song on Damnation to have almost the exact same feel and tone.  Not so with TOT.

Windowpane is awesome but after that the quality of Damnation drops immensely and only improves in tiny sections.
