Lang brilliant, but not as perfect as Mangini. Very cool audition though - going onto Phase 3, now.

There is only one person I know for certain is not the choice.  The other six...who knows?  :x
Wait, did you say who it is or you're supposed to keep it a secret? o-o

Oh well...we'll know the answer in a few days either way.

Oh good god. They turned down Lang because he didn't play the songs exactly as Portnoy did?

It is just me, or was Derek Roddy's playing too cymbal happy?

The impression I got from watching was more like he messed up a couple times trying to showboat, and maybe the new ideas didn't work so well?

If these riffs are an indication of what's going to end up on the album I'll be very, very happy.

It seems he messed up once (like a lot of the other guys did) and was fine with the new ideas once he worked out the time signature.

So pleased that Virgil's a massive fan. The pre-audition jam sounds dead cool, too.

I think that, by Episode 3, they'll start using Majesty demos as background tracks for the episode because they'll run out of standard songs :D

Oof, Donati's timing at the beginning of TDOE was way off.  I don't think he'd be a good fit at all.

And I chuckled at Rudess being hesitant about Lang because of the way he added too much of his own personality to their already-written tunes, considering how much liberty he has taken with keyboard solos in particular since joining the band.

Guys, Myung said the best two so far were Mike and Macro. Could either of you even dare question JM's opinion? If he says those two guys were better than Virgil and Lang, then they were! Case closed!

PETER YOU'RE UP NEXT!!!

Also, maybe it's Priester who blows them away???

Very interesting outcome to the second video.  Marco seemed to be their favorite of the 3 we saw.  It seems that the band loves the enthusiasm of Mike and Marco.  Man I can't wait for the last installment!!!!!

After that, I have no doubt that Marco is the right choice. It's a shame he probably didn't get it.

Yeah, no kidding. The whole "They didn't really play the songs the normal way" thing in general sort of turned me off, to be honest. Although I guess I get that DT doesn't want to get pulled too hard in different directions.

It looks like it's between Mangini and the two third-day candidates, to me. There's a lot of evidence out there that seems to point away from Minnemann, so I think he's a distant fourth. He was pretty great on the audition, though.
Yeah, I have no idea what the cakeless person in that analogy is meant to be eating. If he's got some sort of cake substitute, it should really have been worked into the narrative at some point. As it stands, the options are:

  • Hoard a cake just to stare blankly into its doughy edifice.
  • Make futile chewing motions with your mouth while starving to death.

Marco did a fantastic job. And Virgil was best at the new riff since he breaths odd time signatures.

However I liked Lang's interpretations of the older songs a lot more and I'm rather disappointed that they didn't want someone who added their own personality in it.

I'll be happy with Mike or Marco, they were both great. However I loved both Lang and Donati too, they had great personalities and some of their drumming in the riffs was  :metal

Guys, the whole "the didn't play the songs the right way" could be like a nice way of saying "they didn't play the songs right/correctly."

In my opinion, Mike Mangini seems to be the best fit personality but Macro has a bit of a technical edge. I think Mangini is my favorite so far, though.
