Paraphrasing from my post at MP's house...

I'm floored by the mutual respect for all involved and by the quality of that video. Just that one lone episode
has changed my mind about some things and I want to take back anything I've said that had a negative
tone regarding the amount of time this took, and about my support of DT moving forward. I will support them
100% both in a live setting and via album purchases.

I want to personally thank the band for allowing us this view into the DT machine and the most significant
event in the bands history.

Amen bro.
A daily dose of eMpTyV will flush your mind right down the drain...

I also can't stress enough how awesome it is to hear all of the DT members. It totally changes the perception of the band.

Very true.  It is no longer the Mike Portnoy Show, with appearances by the other members.

Like has been said, those people are the vocal minority.

And considering how disrespectful some of those comments are, I ain't gonna respect them, just because they, like everyone else, have the right to express their opinions.

You're right, i probably didn't phrase that well my thought.

I respect their right to express an opinion, a right that should never be questioned, but i definitely don't respect the way they do, and, of course, don't like WHAT they express at all.

As for the vocal minority thing, yeah, you are probably right, but I can't help to find all this negative reaction childish and unexplicable

Like the old saying goes...it's not what you say, it's how you say it.

And before any longtime poster goes, "WTF, you used to bad mouth aspects of the band all the time," yes, I used to not say things in the most respectful manner (especially around 2002-2004), but I think I've gotten a lot better at that over time.

Haha, nice. I wonder too. Sample? Or make the drummers sing it, it'll be fun to see Virgil sing that  :lol

Actually, given how drum crazy the moments are before that section, if they play that song on the next tour, I could see them segueing into a drum solo, to replace that part.  In other words, they play the song as is until right before the "day after day" part, the new guy gets a solo (which would make sense, since Rudess and Sherinian both got solo spots on their first tours as official members), and then they come out of it into the riff immediately after the "day after day" part.

In the trailer, they references a jam, which I took to mean just basically a free-form jam session, and then also having the drummer play over some new riff ideas.  It sounded like they are considering those to be two separate things, so I think that's "the third part."  Either that, or the third part likely refers to more of a verbal interview, which would also make sense.

I think test 3 is the face to face interview. A way to see them more personally, and how they'd handle interviews.

The first episode was instrumental in making me believe that this documentary thing is actually a really cool idea.  It was great to see the process and to see the band so excited about something like this.

No.  The three parts are:

1.  Play 3 DT songs (ANTR, TDOE, and whatever the ballad is)
2.  Free-form jam
3.  New material

I'd assumed the third part was the chemistry test - getting along well with the guys on a personal (not just musical) level; having similar musical goals, tastes, etc.

I'm not completely sold on this, 2 and 3 seem to me to be exactly the same. They were jamming on new material.
I could imagine them laying down some rules and expectations in the post-talk (e.g. "you have to commit to X albums"), and if the drummer is fine with that, he passes that test too.

I'd assumed the third part was the chemistry test

I KNEW I saw some beakers and bunson burners off in the corner.  I can't wait for the DVD so we can see the footage that got left out!  "So, Mr. Mangini...you nailed The Dance Of Eternity...  Now we have a simple titration problem we'd like you to analyze.  A 25 ml solution of 0.5 M NaOH is titrated until neutralized into a 50 ml sample of HCl. What was the concentration of the HCl?  Your time starts...NOW!"  :xjd:

It's great to see the smiles on their faces and this process had to give them them a rush of musical adrenaline which I hope carried over to the writing and playing of the new album.  Sure some parts were partially written but to see them jam a bit gives me a good vibe about them wanting the new drummer to have his own input into the new material.  Man I'm stoked!

So after this week we will know who the drummer is? Shit, we've been waiting so long, and finally the moment is allmost here! I don't know if im ready!!  :o
Im guessing episodes 2 and 3 will be 30 minutes each. That way, each drummer gets allmost 10 minutes each of video time. Derek Roddy have been given some screentime allready, so i guess his will be a bit shorter.
And, HOLY SHIT!!. I have never really been that big of a fan of Mangini, but if he gets the gig now i would be happy. He genuinely wants to be a part of this band, and he played the parts perfectly - and with insane amounts of energy and passion! Mangini totally blew me away! Nice job!  :tup
