Too much background music, but pretty nifty aside from that!

I am LOVING Mike Mangini. He's stellar on ANTR. Only at the 15 minute mark so far, though.
Holy shit yes he does.

Here you go.

And yeah, it is a fantastic documentary. Sound's a teeny bit iffy in places (where was Jordan's mic - in his beard?!) but frankly who gives a toss? I am psyched with a capital P. And a capital SYCHED. And a capital exclamation mark.

I love Mangini. His playing and personality was spot on. I know we have only seen one, but this sold me more on on him. Plus I have said him from the start.

Yeah - do we reckon that riff at the end is new material, or just a jam-riff? Think they used both, and it was a pretty nifty riff, but I doubt they'd showcase any new material in the documentary.

Would have no problem with it appearing on the album, though.

That was freaking awesome, I'm all giddy now :P

Mangini seems a very strong contender indeed, I do hope it's him - I'm even more sold now. Although LaBrie's reaction to Marco is very promising too, can't wait for the next ep.

That was pretty cool.  If it is Mangini, he looks to be an awesome fit.

And I guess the documentary will be five clips?  That would make sense, to give us five 20 plus minute shorts each day this week, culminating with the reveal on Friday.

Day 1:
10 minutes on Portnoy leaving and them deciding on which seven drummers to pick from
10 minutes on Mangini

Day 2:
10 minutes each on drummers 2 and 3

Day 3:
10 minutes each on drummers 4 and 5

Day 4:
10 minutes each on drummers 6 and 7

Day 5:
The decision

That would make a lot of sense. :tup :tup

What a great person is also Mangini!. Besides their abilities, it seems they are all really kindly and smart.
Great first episode!

Wow.  I am incredibly impressed by Mangini's drumming and his presence/personality.  Well, one down, 6 to go.  I could be wrong, but judging from some of the stuff earlier in the video, it seems like Roddy is second up and then maybe Priester (speaking of whom, even though the clips of his drumming are pretty short, I have to say I have to give him more credit than I previously did).

So, the audition songs are:  ANTR, TDOE, and...a ballad that I did not pick up on.  Did anyone else catch it, or was that still kind of kept under wraps?

I also tried keeping track of the songs played as clips throughout, but lost track.  Seemed like a pretty good variety.

Lastly, as far as the whole "reality show" thing is concerned:  Obviously, since it is a series of auditions competing for one spot, it definitely has a reality TV vibe to it.  But as far as the traditional elimination reality tv show thing, I really only get that sporadically, mainly toward the end when they are doing the previews for the next one.  Otherwise, it is pretty standard documentary-type format, which is great.

And to those who were afraid of the documentary quality, no worries then. It's awasomely great!
