In Retrospect - Album of the Year 2003 - Nomination Phase
« on: April 11, 2011, 09:18:30 PM »
PLEASE READ THE RULES!

Post your top 5 albums from 2002, order doesn't matter.  You may list fewer if you would like / don't know enough of the albums.  If you list runners up, list them UNDER your five nominations
List the band name first, uniformity helps me greatly in compiling lists
If you change your mind, just edit your post.  Don't repost, or quote your old post.  Just fix it.
Posts that can't follow these simple rules will not be counted.

Nomination phase will last at least 3 days.

Holy motherloving was 2003 loaded.

My choices (alphabetical order, and not done at work for a change):

Arena - Contagion
Devin Townsend - Accelerated Evolution
Enchant - Tug of War
Frameshift - Unweaving the Rainbow
Iron Maiden - Dance of Death

Other cool bands that had albums in 2003 (again, alphabetical order)
BTBAM
Chain
Circle II Circle
Children of Bodom
Dream Theater
Evergrey
Odin's Court
Opeth
O.S.I.
Redemption
Slough Feg
Spock's Beard
The Tangent

Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Vol. 2
Kayo Dot - Choir of the Eye
The Mars Volta - De-Loused In The Comatorium
Mew - Frengers
Rob Dougan - Furious Angels*

*this was originally released in 2002 in the UK and I believe Australia, but then it was released in the rest of the world in 2003. If it doesn't count, replace this with Oceansize's Effloresce.

Pantera - Far Beyond The Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits!

Best of albums don't count.  Make a new selection.

Riverside - Out of Myself

This was 2003?  Probably one of the few flubs in my library.  Man, I need to seriously reconsider now.

Blind Guardian- Live
Dream Theater- Train of Thought
Iron Maiden- Dance of Death
Opeth- Damnation
The Mars Volta- Deloused in the Comatarium

Not much for me this year. Looking back at my library, I spent most of 2003 getting into Yes' old stuff.

The Bad Plus - These Are The Vistas
Between The Buried And Me - The Silent Circus
Ephel Duath - The Painter's Palette (jazz metal/avant-garde metal, oh yeah)
Madonna - American Life
Metallica - St. Anger

Pantera - Far Beyond The Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits!

Yeah, and they're just old recordings mainly. Something from 2000 and before released present day is "new"? Don't believe so.

I mean, its got As I Am, Vacant, and ITNOG, and then four bad songs.  I'd hardly call it one of the best albums of 2003 when there were plenty of other bands who managed to make flawless albums.

Pfft...top 5 albums of 2003 definitely. It has aged so damn well over the years.  I certainly wouldn't call TDS, HTF and ES bad songs either.
