« on: March 25, 2011, 08:04:21 PM »
Well, I have been under a lot of pressure lately. Nothing seems to be going the way I planned in every aspect of my life (typo?). Im on the edge of breakdown and I think that the only thing keeping me sane is music >:(

Take a  :chill

No, but seriously, there are many things you could try to do. Stress is good to keep you up and running with your work and duties, but everyone needs time to do whatever makes them relaxed. These are some suggestions:

01. Do you play an instrument? If yes, you could try to compose a song, maybe write lyrics about the stress and how you deal with it. Often times, taking that weight out in creative manners helps a lot.

02. Do you like TV Shows/Movies?
If yes, try disconnecting yourself from internet and everything else and just take some hours to sit and watch your favorite TV show or movie. Comedy would come in very handy in here.

03. Go out. I myself resist a lot to the thought of going outside where other creatures live, but sometimes seeing cars, streets and random people might inspire, relax and organize your thoughts well.

Simple things you can do in your daily life: Always take some moments to BREATHE. This is one of those fundamental things that people tend to take for granted. 5 minutes of deep breathing and good posture actually makes a difference. You should also try to be "clean" from the computer for some moments, if that's your case.

Long-term solutions: If things aren't going great in your life, hiding or ignoring obviously won't help, the best thing to do is to organize your thoughts and make a plan to change it. Obviously, the best actions you will take will come when your state of mind is calm and in peace with itself, not with pressure and stress.

Good luck!

In defense of peanut butter...

try getting the neighbor's dog to lick your balls with a spoonful of chummus.

Well I do play guitar and thats a part of my problem. Im 22 and played the damn thing for 12 years now, I finished what we call here Primary School (6 years) and Middle School (4 years) for guitar and I am not able to find any musicians willing to take s#|t seriously...

I will try to take some time for breathing, it seams logical enough...

EDIT
no pets in my neighborhood, and i see what you are doing there. I had a dog though and dont think i am ready for another one...

I have anxiety/panic disorders, which are a bit different, but I can relate.
Drink a fuckload of tea. I know it sounds funny, but it's been getting me through a LOT--even when it's decaffeinated.

As said before, play music.

Long, hot showers are amazing for this as well.

I also keep a journal and when I freak out, I just write and write and write--it doesn't even need to be legible or coherent. Just write.

Also, if it really turns into a problem that you can't shake, look into meds. I was against them but clonazepam really helps me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clonazepam

Take walks.  Long and lovely walks.  And choose the right kind of music for them too.  That part is vital.

Strenuous exercise works really well for me. Busting out 50 miles of hills on my bike as fast as I can ride really does wonders. But even moderate exercise gets the endorphins flowing which makes you feel good. Works every time.

to be honest I'm probably going to stay a pissy teenager 'til the day I die, so I deal with stress by getting in my car and driving and singing/yelling all the words to every folk emo song that reminds me that I'm useless and a waste and will be trampled underfoot by everything I do for the rest of my life and that actually makes it better (??)

I would do that but since the incident happened on the toilet I am legally obligated to stay atleast five feet from one in my country.

I take walks and do Qi Gong once a week to relieve the stress.

Meditation. There's no better way to relieve stress (except for other meditation-related practices such as yoga, qi gong etc.).

Exercise. It really helps. If you work out in the morning it will stay with you all day. I'm often stressed and in a bad mood when I come home from school - then I go to my kempo training, and get back happy, refreshed and full of energy.
