I've asked myself this question and thought I throw it out here as a good starting post on these here forums.

What a bizarre first post.  Why wouldn't anyone be accepting?  If you choose to be a fan of the band, you'll except the new drummer.

Welcome anyway mate.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Of course I'll accept the new drummer! Who wouldn't (except for some people who think MP was DT's heart and soul)?

interesting timing on this thread.
I was driving in to work this morning listening to Nightmare to Remember...and I kept thinking to myself...wow......Mike cannot be replaced...no matter who they get...it won't be the same....and I doubt it will be better.

I am suddenly concerned.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

I've asked myself this question
Why?

I did too, it's usually due to mixed feelings on how the previous member left the band, I haven't accepted Trujillo til 2009, I really hated watching any live videos of Metallica with him before that, why is takes a lot of explaining in this case.
I'll be very accepting of the new DT drummer though, I've been very critical of MP's management of DT for a long time even though I never stopped liking and respecting his musical contributions to DT.
I wouldn't want somebody with 18 kids to mow my damn lawn, based on a longstanding bias I have against crazy fucks.

How many people will vote "yes", then when the drummer is finally announced will rage?

Consider the bickering in the speculation thread quite a few

Nobody will ever be able to replace Mike but I will do my best to keep an open mind and focus on
the music. In a live setting Mike was at the top of the heap of modern drummers. The best of
the best.

Why not?  I can't really imagine why anyone would vote "no."

Agreed.  That would be like judging a book by its cover and we haven't even seen the cover yet!  I will fully accept the new drummer, especially since JP told us that he will not disappoint on any level.

Accept yes, but if it's Mangini i surely would be disappointed...

Tin

Without hearing the new album why?

As i've said before i've never heard nothing from him, (Steve vai, JLB MM, MM2, EOP) that did something for me and his drum sound was awful, i know that his playing, sound, etc. may improve a lot with DT but just imagine where the music would go with either Lang or Minnemann, i'm more inclined towards Lang...

i mean have you heard stOrk? Langs playing completly blows out of the water anything i've ever heard Mangini play even "Fire Garden suite" which i don´t think it's that good and i could only imagine what he could've brought to the table if he was inspired, pushed, etc. by the other members of DT.

So yeah i would be disappointed without hearing the album if it was Mangini just because i will always think that it could've been better with Lang or Minnemann

peace

The only possible reason I can think of for someone not accepting the new drummer is if it's someone who they've already had a strong dislike for because of style or whatever.

At this point, I just want a new album.

Well, voting yes seems little different in that regard.  How do any of us know we'll be accepting in the end?  Doesn't seem unreasonable that after hearing the music some fans might turn against the change despite being completely open to it, initially.

Because we all trust JP implicitly, well most of us anyway.

Certainly. I too will be initially disappointed if it's Mangini but I'll certainly not resent the decision, at least until I hear the album.
I so want it to be Lang that I've set myself up to be disappointed.

That, or someone who just so worships Portnoy that anyone else is going be a major comedown by definition.   :hefdaddy

In terms of musicianship and concept, I would disagree with you. The title track is the best part of it, too.

I can see another person there, sure. I will be accepting.

It's not going to be the same, but change is good. Besides, the pattern in their discography dictates that this album will be great. Analyze this:

(In bold are the albums that are absolute favorites/great albums as a whole)

When Dream and Day Unite
Images and Words
Awake
Falling Into Infinity
Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Train of Thought
Octavarium
Systematic Chaos
Black Clouds & Silver Linings
[New album]

Hell yes! I totally didn't pick up on that!

It is amazing how your feelings change the more times goes on......
March 2011 Of course I would be accepting, we just want a new drummer announcement and a new album already.  :)
January 2010 Hope its Mangini, hurry up and announce it.
October 2010 Hopefully Mike comes bacK, I can't imagine DT without him.

Maybe their (DT) ploy is to wait as long as possible so it could be even be Animal from the Muppets and no one would mind.  :)

While my first choice would be Minneman, if they didn't pick him it would mean he's not the best for DT. They need to be content with their choice. At any rate, it's all in the ear of the beholder. All three are world class. Personally, I love Mangini's drumming and think he would be a great fit. But hey, that's just me. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter though.

I think this is my situation too. I been wanting it to be Lang for so long, that if he did not make it then I will be disappointed. I don't think I'll be disappointed for long though...I think the guys in DT will make the best choice for the band and no matter who the drummer is, I still believe that they will make great music together.

Shame that Octavarium is their worst album.

+1. I have to be honest when I say that while I don't really like how he left the band, you can't replace him, despite the fact that there is still alot of anger about him leaving, which is justifiable.
There is so little respek left in the world, that if you look it up in the dictionary, you'll find that it has been taken out.

That pattern doesn't quite work because generally I&W, Awake and Scene's are considered their strongest work/fan favorites.

As long as he doesn't try to sing I'd venture to say I'm more along the lines of excited.
That'd be a real step up.

But what if, as opposed to other drummers of DT, he can actually sing?

i think no..i might not get addicted to the  new album at all knowing the machine in the back is now different..and not just that, the influence of MP for all of their albums might be the main difference..
