Allen definitely had more of a stage presence, but for obvious reasons.  At the Trocadero, I was looking up at him.  Through all the lighting and shadows he looked like a giant, epic, metal god.  Both times I saw Dream Theater I was about even with James or standing above him, so he didn't look nearly as cool.
I was probably at the same show as you, were you at the Paradise Lost tour? Sure he looks cool, but he didn't really do much.

I went to the show in the summer, probably the first show they played there after the release of PL.  I remember being really impressed, except for PL (song).  Allen seemed to be completely off key during that one.  Also, the fact that I couldn't hear him at all during the quiet sections of the songs was kinda disappointing.

At the one I went to, he was phenomenal during PL.

Since you all seem to be Symphony X fans, why haven't you voted in my survivor?

That was actually the one time around I didn't see Symphony X at the Troc so I can't give my opinion on that exact show, I had gone to the show on Long Island two days earlier.

I'd like Allen more if he kept his integrity and stuck with beautiful singing rather than going all harsh vocals on recent albums to please the kiddies.

So because he decided he wanted to sing differently than you wanted him to, he has no integrity?

Russell Allen!

I've always said that he's the best singer out there.

Allen owns, LaBrie cant hit any notes live for shit! Although great in studio Labrie is doing more of a falsetto yell rather than vocalizing, id suck allens dick any day!

Pretty interesting first post... :lol

I don't care for Symphony X, but Allen is most certainly the better vocalist. I like LaBrie more, though.

So this is what happens when prog metal fans try and act tough (like they're normal metal fans)  ;D

Probably the worst post I've read in 2011 so far.  ::)

LaBrie for me by far, Russell is a good singer though.  LaBrie has been on IT recently.  Choas in Motion I think, was the worst he's ever sounded.  But just watching live videos/bootlegs from last year and 2009 and he was amazing.   :)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. While Symphony X is far from my favorite prog metal band, Russel Allen is easily prog metal's best singer.
Gadough isn't Hitler. He's much, much worse.

Not really a fan of Allen nor Symphony X, so LaBrie is the easy choice by far.
