You don't agree with what exactly? ;)
I didn't mean that Opeth are selling out, quite the opposite to be honest, or well, "selling out" is kinda a term I dislike.
The next album will surely be different, and that's the most important thing for me, every album has to have 'something' that makes it different from the rest. ;)

And I really don't see what's experimental about hearkening back to forty year old music.

But of course, this is all based off an album cover and a few bullet points from some website, so we'll just have to wait and see.

This is kind of my view as well, but Crack the Skye was hugely influenced by the 70s (the band used 70s equipment, all those crazy bits in The Last Baron, etc.), and they actually created something totally unique and modern.  I hope that's what happens to Opeth, rather than an album with a mindset of "lets do blues-style power anthems with lots of mellotron and organs."  I can see it being really good or really bad.  Honestly, I could see this album having songs with the same kind of sound as "The Throat of Winter" and "Burden," but while they are good songs, I've since become indifferent to them.  So I hope the album has more staying power than that.

Lots of hopes, but I am eagerly waiting to hear it and to have any doubts quelled.

I don't think it's going to really sound like a 70s album. Sure they'll be influences, but I'm not expecting to hear a Road Salt or a Deep Purple album or anything.

It's going to be drastically different from anything we've heard before.

I've actually been anticipating this 'change' in direction for a longer time to be honest.
There's nothing wrong with having a sound and sticking to it, but I've always wanted Opeth to try more new stuff, or shake things up, and do something they haven't done before.
If Mikael stops growling completely, then it's a bit sad seeing how great he is at it, and the extra dimension it adds to the band's sound.
I'd kinda love to still have the growl-vocals, though maybe not as much.

It'll be heavy but not heavy as in Distorted guitars. Musically heavy. This and DT are the albums I'm anticipating for the year...

I hope that's what happens to Opeth, rather than an album with a mindset of "lets do blues-style power anthems with lots of mellotron and organs."
I hear the new album will be nothing but different interpretations of their cover of Soldier of Fortune.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

I'm so excited for this. No death metal is kind of sad, but Mikael is one of my favorite songwriters, and I want to see what else he can do. He'll never do another death metal record as good as SL or BWP, so why not move on?

Only possible problem here is that his vocal range is usually quite limited, so there is always a risk of his voice becoming monotonous.
He's one of my favourite singers, so I really couldn't disagree more.
He's one of my favorite singers too. Just throwing it out there.

And I really don't see what's experimental about hearkening back to forty year old music.
In the context of music as a whole, harkening back to forty year-old music is not experimental. In the context of Opeth's music, it is. The guys are taking a huge chance with it, they have no idea whether people will think it works or not, and it's a radical departure in style that's unlike anything they've ever done. "Experimental" is a perfect description.

I'm slightly disappointed the closest show is in NY. I'd go see these dudes if it was not a pain in the ass to beg and plead and cry to get there.

Just FYI, Wikipedia tells me that Blacksburg is home to 39,000 people. My town is home to 20,000. Your town is literally twice as big as mine.

Does that 39,000 include the students? If so, then the town is actually 9,000.
