Well, I don't think it looks bad. And at least we're talking about a ton, which wouldn't be the case if the faces weren't there.

I'm actually getting more excited for the album now... I mean it's sad there won't be any growls but at the same time DAMNATION is an amazing album too!

No growling? Interesting. Watershed was fantastic, so I'm pumped, but as others have said, the heavy-soft trade-off is something I really enjoy in their music. Here's hoping they found something to 'replace' that aspect.

I am, however, disappointed by the lack of IL and/or WI shows. What the fuck? C'mon!

Blackwater Park and Watershed are my favorites. Most Opeth albums put me in a pretty bleak mood so they're more suited to Winter and Fall for me... glad the new album is coming out in September!

Also, Burden is a really good song.

I hear ya. Took me a while to get into it but I think it was the drumming that finally hooked me.

Also, is the fifth face Joakim or Per? I haven't seen a good enough res pic yet to determine.

To each his own, but I think you guys are taking it too seriously. I feel like it's meant to be a joke. It's meant to be ridiculous. It's meant to be almost like a satire of 70s covers.

If there's one thing this album has done so far, it's taught us to expect the unexpected! I love how everything from the cover art to the music to band member departures have made me say, "Didn't see that coming".

Does anyone else think the Per thing is really harsh? Yeah he left the band around that time.

But being immortalised as such on the front cover of an album?

that's a complete slap in the face, and they should have thought more carefully about that. Just having one more skull at the bottom would have been far better.

Slap in the face? Nope. This is what we call symbolism. And adding an extra skull wouldn't make as much sense, seeing how he JUST left the band recently. His head falling is that of his recent departure, not one from several years ago.

And you really don't think it's the least bit insulting? It's such an unsavoury and unflattering image, if I were in a band for almost a decade I wouldn't want to be remembered and immortalised on a cover like that.

I must be a minority I guess. Opeth has created so much metal that any more would be, how Mikael was looking at it, more of the same just abouts. Why not give their take on 70s prog a shot?

Most of the bands that have had longevity for me have excelled in doing so.
