So that was pretty cool. All of the band members were really nice, it's a shame I was so nervous I didn't really say much other than how much I loved their playing on the new album. :lol At least with Mikael I got to say something about how excited I was for Storm Corrosion.

The show was fantastic. I did find myself missing the growls a bit but I still think the set was great regardless.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Today is such a blackwater park day. Listened to the album twice back to back, it reminded me of why heritage hasn't come out of its box for quite a while...

Yeah, funny you mentioned that because even though I think Heritage is....decent......since its release I've probably listened to Ghost Reveries, Blackwater Park and Watershed more often than I've felt the need to go back to Heritage.  I don't think it's a bad album, per se, it just doesn't make me  :eek like the others

Finally got around to listening to Heritage this week (been too preoccupied with other new releases), and after three listens, I like it a lot.  I can see why some might not be overly wild about it, especially the metal fans who want riffs that crush your soul and growls that pierce through your whole body, but for what this is, it is awfully good.  Hard to pick out favorites this early on, but The Devil's Orchard and Famine are standing out the most so far.

I've been listening to Heritage a lot and... I don't care for much of it. Some cool ideas but there's not much holding them together and, for as short as the songs are, they feel much more aimless than their longer, METUHL songs (except for the songs on Orchid, but Orchid sucks :neverusethis: ). It's an interesting experiment, but if they continue down this road, I hope they tighten their songwriting a bit.

I DO like Folklore, Lines In My Hand, and Slither a lot. Folklore because it remains pretty interesting throughout the entire song and the latter two because they're the most straightforward, focused songs on the album. I feel like I'm a step away from liking Famine, but, I just don't care for parts of it.

Some of the songs definitely sound a bit aimless, as if they just noodled around and called it a song, but I am still seeing a handful of really good songs on here thus far.  It will never touch Still Life or Blackwater Park, and probably won't touch Ghost Reveries, Damnation or Watershed either, but it still sounds pretty solid to me.  :tup :tup

For me, Heritage is a really solid record. But I actually like Damnation more for some reason - it felt more emotional. Or maybe it just has a special meaning for me, I don't know.

But Folklore is one of their best tracks through their entire discography, if you ask me. :tup

This is how I feel - I guess because it was a big departure that everyone was hoping they'd hit gold instantly as with their old style, which probably isnt too fair/realistic.

Either way, I want the old Opeth next record. I'm sick of pseudo-70s rock. EVERYONE is doing it.

Agree with the 70's thing, but they could always do something else for the new album, that's neither 70's or old Opeth. :P

Heritage > Watershed

This is a conclusion I've come to after listening to it several times.

1. Ghost Reveries
2. Deliverance
3. Blackwater Park
4. Still Life
5. Morningrise
6. Damnation
7. My Arms, Your Hearse
8. Heritage
9. Watershed
10. Orchid
Gadough isn't Hitler. He's much, much worse.

They were amazing. Everyone in the band was spot on, Mikael was a riot, and the sound in the theater was flawless. I could hear every instrument and Mikael's voice perfectly, and my ears weren't even ringing afterwards.

Also, Martin bought a hotel chain in Vegas that houses a bunch of naked girls, at least according to Mikael.

Yeah, they put on a great show in Pomona. Also, it was really great to see everyone in the crowd really in to it and not being assholes yelling for them to play Blackwater Park or whatever.

Also also, while a great show, it really did highlight just how much I'm going to miss old Opeth.

:caffeine:
I went to a black metal show (Dimmu Borgir, Enslaved and a few local black metal bands) last year in November, and there as snow on the ground as we waited to be let in.

Never before have I felt so kvlt.

I like all of the songs on Heritage other than Famine and Haxprocess.

They are a mess, IMO. Totally boring.
