I saw some bad reviews here and on other forums so I was a bit hesitant about this album, but after I gave it just 2 full listens, I was super impressed. This album rocks, guys and girls! I am by no means a fan of 70's style prog (I can respect it, but the sound irks me sometimes) but this is a great album that flashes nostalgia while comming in fresh. Firstly, this could be the clinic on how to produce an album, everything is crisp sounding, clean, clear, beautiful and dynamic like no modern album seems to be anymore.

I can see why some might not like the album as there really isnt a stand-alone couple of songs you'll want to pull up now and again just to rock out to or thrash around with, so in this regard it differs from the last 2 Opeth albums which definitely had great signature "tracks". This album reminds me a lot like PT's "The Incident" where all the songs flow together, repeat melodies, and serve as small pieces to one large work of art, and of course, this work is as darkly melodic, mysterious, beautifully haunting, and just "cool" as only Opeth can make it.

Perhaps this is why I love the album so much as I have not listened to it other than in its entirety (around 6 full spins so far).

Yeah, it's different.. I've never liked many music videos over the countless that I've seen but this one will do for how zany the music is. It doesn't necessarily 'fit', but it'll do. It still reminds me of nearly every other music video I've seen: Fitting random fucking images to the music's rhythm and tone; instead of doing something purposeful like creating a story to go along with it.

Yep. TOX said that it would take a lot for The Hunter to beat Heritage. I don't think it needed as much, but it doesn't matter because it kicks about 8 different flavors of ass.

I'm loving it! Sound seems super-dry to me for some reason...way heavier than I expected. Loved the documentary...

Liked it on first listen! Particularly Folklore. Gonna take a while for me to appreciate it fully, I think. Dunno how high it will get in my Opeths rankings, simply on the strength of their other stuff.

And just bought tickets for my first Opeth show! Yay!

Overall, I think I like the album, but I'm not crazy about the running order, because it leaves a rather large section in the middle of the album that's very ambient and sort of ponderous......maybe MA was going for some kind of specific somber mood through that section of the album, and I think in the context of the whole album as a listening experience, it's OK, but it's hard for me to not reach for the FF button sometimes.

With that said, there are some astonishing guitar solos on this album and Ax has proven he's definitely got as much -if not more- groove than Lopez did.

The documentary was very interesting.
