Yeah, bummer. Anyway, RAH DVD is really, really good. The sound is fantastic (sounds like they got their live guitar sounds right since they got Fredrik in the band?), and the venue and camera work have a better atmosphere than their other DVD's. I especially didn't like how bright the Roundhouse Tapes is. Looks like they kept the house lights on?

Ok looks like Watershed won the coin toss between it and Deliverance.

So, Opeth and DT are both with Roadrunner, their albums are comming out roughly the same time, any idea when we can expect to hear a song off the new album?

Think I heard Mikael say in an interview somewhere that he wants to try to release the album without having any songs being prereleased

It's good, but it's certainly not their best. Ghost Reveries, Blackwater Park, and Still Life are definitely better, and I might rate some others ahead of it as well.

I think that their best is Blackwater park...so dark and so misterious.
And don't forget Deliverance/Damnation. especially Damnation...it is such a masterpiece of emetions and loneliness.

wathershed is also great, but it is more proggy, wich I like, but from Opeth I've always expected power, evilness and pathos.

Watershed is magnificent, but it's best served listening to in one sitting.  It has always struck me as being one song short though.

If you were after more of the 10 min death prog epics, then it ain't for you though, which probably explains the diverse opinions.  For mine, Blackwater Park was the pinnacle of that era of the band, and My Arms, Your Hearse and Still Life were leading up to it and Akerfeldt has kind of been looking for the next "thing" ever since.

Morningrise is superb.  I won't hear a bad word spoken about it.   :)

Me too  :) I contend that Moringrise is my favourite Opeth album, for it's sincere atmosphere and for it's youthful ambition. Sure some of their other albums are more polished, but to be honest I really enjoy the raw emotion and rebelliousness exhibited on those early albums. Clearly a band trying to go in a different direction to the somewhat bland death metal scene their time. Having it on vinyl doesn't hurt either

My first Opeth purchase was Deliverance but as an old prog fan from way back I was very impressed when I got around to buying Morningrise.  I think Akerfeldt's 70s influences are very plain and the album has a great mix of melody, heaviness, clean and death vocals as well as an almost folky atmosphere at times.  Plus it has the epic Black Rose Immortal as well as the beautiful To Bid You Farewell, two of my favourite Opeth songs.  Advent and The Night And The Silent Water are also very good.

I had a dream like night that I was in a cafe, and Opeth randomly appeared on stage and played the entire new album live, but about a minute into them starting, I was called backstage for some reason I can't remember and missed the entire thing.

it's good, certainly, but not as good as previous offerings. many people cite Blackwater Park as their favourite, personally mine is Ghost Reveries. production/music and mastering make it perfect! :metal

Same. I actually like Deliverance better than Watershed. It isn't that Watershed is BAD, it just isn't up to the standards of, say Blackwater Park or Ghost Reveries.

Mind you my favorite Opeth album is Morningrise, so YMMV.

IDK if its been done and I'm far too lazy to check, but why don't we do an album ranking for Opeth in the thread? Opinions are so diverse, moreso than DT dare I say, it'd be interesting to see what comes out. Takers?
I punch those numbers into my calculator and they make a happy face.
