So apparently Mikael is doing a 10-episode radioshow on Swedish national radio:
https://www.facebook.com/notes/opeth/mikael-on-swedish-national-radio/227923860570003
I'm currently listening to the first episode, seems very intresting. I was actually hoping he would do a show like this :hat

Too bad it's in swedish only.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?

A new Finnish article I translated (from Soundi magazine):
Quote
Swedish Opeth will release its 10th studio album in September. However, one won't be yet able to sink into the interesting atmospheres of Heritage at the show in Sonisphere, Helsinki on the 2nd of July.

"We were rehearsing The Devil's Orchard for a while but then we were thinking about it one more time. What if it's terribly windy on the gig day? What if our live sound sucks for a reason or another? Many fans would record our performance with their phones and release the material on Youtube right away. And the comments would be like "it sucks", "meh", "where's Lopez, come back" and so on. We decided not to focus on the new material until the tour in the fall", says vocalist/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt.

The festival gigs in the summer, however, introduce the band's new keyboardist. Per Wiberg has been replaced by Joakim Svalberg.

"We were almost done recording Heritage when Per's departure was finally confirmed. We weren't hurrying up to find a replacement, but Fredrik (Åkesson, guitar) happened to know Joakim and we decided to jam some songs with him. We knew he had played with Yngwie Malmsteen and one can make 2 conclusions of this: he has to be a good musician and he can work with challenging people", Åkerfeldt tells.

"I always end up with a horrible depression at the end of recording sessions. I can't feel enthusiastic about anything for some time. But while playing with us, Joakim was already so passionate that it was impossible for me not to feel excited too. He gave a really positice kick. Then Joakim played the opening title-track of Heritage in the studio and it was the final seal. He became an Opeth member."

Heritage is an album which demands interpretation with a view. The approximately hour-long album may be a slap in the face for the puritan fans of Opeth's death metal side, but at the same time the fans of 70's atmosphere and authentic sound of Hammond will smile easier than ever before. Notable influences that can be heard are for example Black Sabbath, Ritchie Blackmore's bands, Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull.

"The album turned out well... Or, to be honest I love it!", Åkerfeldt laughs.

"I'm not denying our previous albums by any means. I still like them and they came straight from the heart, in the thoughts of those times. However, for the last few years I've been thinking even more often, am I still that same death metal guy who growls brutally... Right now I don't feel like that at all. I'm living a different era at the moment. But still, the next Opeth album may be a return to death metal and heavy riffs. I really don't know the future and that's the wealth of doing this."

"Our music is very timeless in a way. It's paradoxalic that at the same time Opeth has to be contemporary and change the musical direction if it's needed. So we're living in a moment like this, liked our old fans or not."

Opeth stayed in a perfect shadow during the whole recordings, in terms of media.

"No Twitter, no Facebook, no website updates. We didn't reveal anything else than the fact that we're going into studio and the new songs sound good. No outsiders heard the music or got any information during the sessions. This was another old way to make a record; in the past people didn't know what Deep Purple was up to in the studio", tells Åkerfeldt.

"I'm 37 years old. Opeth has been together for 21 years and soon we have released 10 studio albums. My worst nightmare now is to make compromises and music that doesn't come fully from the heart... Fortunately there's no fear about that. Heritage is definitely an investment which carries far to the future. In fact, maybe Opeth wouldn't even have a future without this kind of album."

Is that the shortest average track length of any Opeth album? Off the top of my head I can only think Dammnation might be smaller, but it has less tracks.
I punch those numbers into my calculator and they make a happy face.

Assuming those track lengths are correct, here's a list (lengths from my Winamp library):

Blackwater Park - 75:54
Watershed - 71:18
Ghost Reveries - 66:46
Morningrise - 66:00
Orchid - 65:26
Still Life - 62:25
Deliverance - 59:50
Heritage - 57:04
My Arms, Your Hearse - 52:30
Damnation - 43:18

^ That list is with the bonus tracks included. So Heritage would be a little higher up otherwise.

Also, totally called it that Heritage would be an intro track. I'm too lazy to find the post where I said that, but it's ITT somewhere.

The only sad part about those lengths is that assuming a lot of the tracks are at all heavy or metal based to a certain degree, this will crush what I've been telling people about how Opeth does not have a heavy track that is under 6 minutes.

Also I bought my ticket yesterday afternoon. Got it directly at the box office since I was in the area and saved myself about $14 in service fees from Ticketmaster.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

Anyone want the Watershed DVD with the 5.1? I listed mine on eBay here: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250844977670#ht_500wt_898

Kind of pissed after clicking "edit listing" all the album details and picture got erased but... Oh, well. I'm reliable. :lol

That sounds rather mainstream. Are Opeth selling out?

More like they sold out when they made a non-heavy song like "To Bid Farewell" on Morningrise.

Thanks dude! I'm watching the stream right now, cool that they're broadcasting all these bands (especially Opeth though, now there are shitty emo and hardcore bands, but it's fun to watch anyway).
