I'm about to try Mad Men
« on: March 13, 2011, 09:10:59 AM »
Any Mad Men fans here?  I'd love to know why you guys love this series, I guess so I can get an idea of what I'm getting myself into.  I remember someone doing a "10 Best TV Episodes of the Decade" thread, can't remember who it was, but I do remember an episode of Mad Men being on there.

LOVE THIS SHOW!

I found it took 2 or 3 episodes for me to really get into it but once I did, I really fell in love with the show. My favourite show from the last few years.

I don't really know if I can say what I like about it so much though...it's just a damn enjoyable show.

Was me.  "Nixon vs. Kennedy" was at #3.

May take a while to grab you.  First episode is probably the worst of the series.  But definitely a rich and engaging experience.

Y'know I think I do like the pilot so far.

Besides the obvious technical quality, I love Don Draper.  I've never seen a character remain so mysterious despite being the main character of a show.

No other show puts the amount of effort into minute details as Mad Men does. Watch an episode 10 times, I guarantee you'll notice something new everytime.
Brilliant show.

Setra, I think that is the best statement I have read on this forum.  Very well said.

I have been thinking about watching this show because it's on Netflix. Maybe I will.

Amazing show. On a par with, and in some ways superior to, the Sopranos.

It takes a while to get into it -- each season has about a three-episode intro before it gets underway, but once it's done, you have to go back and watch it again to catch all of the little references and tricks. There's nothing accidental in there, and things introduced seemingly randomly in earlier episodes make sense as the season goes on. I won't spoil anything, but the season finales have a way of making everything in the show pay off.

Enjoy!
—No, continued Aunt Kate, she wouldn't be said or led by anyone, slaving there in that choir night and day, night and day. Six o'clock on Christmas morning! And all for what?
—Well, isn't it for the honour of God, Aunt Kate? asked Mary Jane, twisting round on the piano-stool and smiling.
Aunt Kate turned fiercely on her niece and said:
—I know all about the honour of God, Mary Jane
