Henson for UNC made a brilliant defensive play near the end, then almost gave up the game TWICE with idiot plays in the final few seconds.
Yes, I was quite upset with him.  However, UNC survives and advances.
Thank god.  I got them losing to Kansas in the finals.(sorry Hef, nothing but love for ya)

Well, that was a much closer game for Duke than it should've been!
Joe and I in the same squad is basically the virtual equivalent of us plowing a rape van through an elementary school playground at recess.

I'm still doing pretty well with my brackets.  My final four is still intact.  My elite eight is still intact as a matter of fact.  Barely with Duke and UNC playing like they did... but yep.
I don’t know what to put here anymore

So.  Pitt vs. Butler.
Killed my brackets.  Had Pitt in the final four. :(
Well that was a mistake. Everyone knows Pitt chokes every year.

Kansas is the best team in the country.  I've got them and OSU in the finals, but KU is so athletic, disciplined (except for Josh Selby who I'd have benched mid-season), and deep, that if they don't win it all with the team they've got, they should be ashamed.

No, they really shouldn't be ashamed if they don't win.  Single elimination tournaments packed full of good teams are brutal.  No matter how good you are it's hard to string out 6 straight wins against top opponents, most of which happen to be on winning streaks against other top teams.

Agreed, "ashamed" was a stupid word to use.  But whenever you've got the best team in the tournament, the expectations are high enough that it's going to be highly disappointing if you don't win it all, regardless of how tough it is to accomplish.

Is it just me, or are there a lot more down to the wire games this year.  Seems like about 2/3rds of them go down to the last possession or two.

You and I would get along famously.  My favorite part of the tourney is when Duke gets knocked out, it's like getting a shiney new bicycle for Christmas.

The only think that would make a dook loss sweeter is if someone would take a lead pipe to Kzyakjsdgfy's skull after they lose.  He's such a prick, I hope he retires so Bob Knight can keep the wins title.  Knight is an asshole I can root for.

No worries, I didn't have UNC making it that far!  :lol  I love them, and will be pulling for them, but they are extremely young (which really showed itself in the ACC Tournament), so I will be surprised if they can come up with the willpower to make it to the finals.

BTW, how about the Big Least Conference?

I just get sick of seeing and hearing all the bickering about the Big East.  They did not do well in the tournament this year or last year... but so what?  It doesn't mean they suck as a conference.  They are large, and they are deep, but what they apparently are not is a conference carrying truly top flight teams.

The negativity surrounding these teams is saddening, if you ask me.  An 11 seed team makes the Sweet 16 and you can hardly find a conversation involving them that doesn't immediately become about how the Big East sucks.

I hope Marquette beats UNC, but I don't expect it to happen since UNC is obviously a much better team.  Frankly, I'm shocked Marquette is in the Sweet 16, but certainly thrilled.  The odd feeling I get is that we're actually going to see a game where the general audience is cheering for a 2-seed over an 11-seed.  ...and when Marquette loses to a team it should lose to all we're going to hear from people is how much more it proves Marquette and the Big East sucks.

I love sports, but the vile negativity that can start to emanate from fans is a real turn off.  Conversation regarding the Big East is becoming one of those things.

^Part of the problem is that there's no frame of reference for comparing teams in different conferences other than at best a couple of games at the beginning of the season.  The Big East looked great all year, but the fact is, each conference plays the vast majority of its games within itself, so it's impossible to say how a team will fare when pitted against top teams from other conferences.

@j:

The Big East looked good during conference play largely because it actually did do well in nonconference.  A good number of wins were scored against top teams as well as the bottom feeders scoring wins against eventual bubble teams.  I think they've shown they're deep as a conference, but that shouldn't be translated as dominant,as so many seem to think it does.

I don't think the Big East is the best conference out there, but then again I have no idea which one is.  I question the overall quality of the ACC even though it might have the best two programs in the nation.  Perhaps the Big Ten or Big XII, I'm not sure.  The Big East is one of the best, though, regardless of their failure at the tournament this year.

The other part of it is that it is a single elimination tournament.  Does anybody think the 1983 NC St. team that beat Houston was the best team in the country that year?  How about 1985 Villanova?  Fact is that in a single elimination tournament, the underdogs are going to make a little noise.  Combine that with the fact that when you are branded the best conference, you're likely to get everyone's best shot, just like dook takes everyones best shot as the defending champs.

Of the 8 Big East teams eliminated, 2 were eliminated by other Big East teams (Syracuse and Cincinnati), St. John's lost a significant player for the season in the BE tourney, Villanova has been in free fall, Pitt lost to last year's runner-up who were only seeded low because they started slow due to injuries, WV lost to a higher seed (#4 seed Kentucky) that a lot of people thought should have been a 3 seed, Georgetown lost their PG to a wrist injury before the tournament, which leaves sorry ass Notre Dame - and the eat ass so I'm not going to defend their pasting by a great defensive team in Florida St.

Look, you may be a Big East fan, but there is no way they deserved 11 teams to make the tournament.  That was ridiculous, and it shows in looking at how many of them made the Sweet 16.

I've been a UNC fan all my life, and I am convinced that for the past several decades, the ACC has been consistently the toughest conference for basketball.  Do we have down years?  Of course - see this season, for example, when I thought that probably the Big 10 or Big 12 had the best season.  But even in a down year, we have 3 teams in the Sweet 16.

If Big East fans don't want to hear crap about their lack of performance in the tournament, then they need to perform better in the tournament. That seems fairly simple.

But in the end, any gibes here on the forum are in good fun.  And it's only sports, anyway, so there's no reason for anyone to get upset.  After all, DoC isn't posting in this thread.

As you may or may not have read, I clearly stated I do not think the Big East is the best conference and that the ACC might have the best top of a league.

It got 11 teams in, which is equivalent to 7-8 from an 11 team conference like the Big Ten.  This year was a bit of a fluke, it normally doesn't put in the highest percentage of teams compared to the other big conferences.  Before this year 8/16 was the most, a 50% clip.  It never would have landed this many if the bubble wasn't so weak this year.  Not many Marquette fans even thought Marquette earned a bid, it's just that they compared well to a glutton of other teams that didn't really earn a bid.

Their only loss is to Marquette. :)  Hopefully they can make the Final Four, but it's so hard to tell how good a team is that hasn't played many top opponents.  Great season for them no matter what happens now, though.
