The Bitches Brew Thread
« on: March 09, 2011, 12:46:45 PM »
Listening to this album for the first time in about five or six months, and before that I hadn't played it for maybe a year. I rarely put it on anymore, as is the case with a lot of my favourite albums, but it makes it all the more amazing when I do decide to spin it again.

IMO, this album deserves every bit of the praise it gets. One of the things I love about it the most is that, in many parts, it seems very quiet, like maybe there isn't so much going on, but if you listen in carefully and start isolating instruments, there's still tons of intricate stuff happening. It's one of those cliché statements that you can listen to an album any number of times and always hear something new. This is one of the few albums I would feel I can confidently apply that to.

Anyway, appreciate this beast.

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'.” - Bob Newhart
So wait, we're spelling it wrong and king is spelling it right? What is going on here? :lol -- BlobVanDam

Great record.  I don't listen to straight jazz that much, but when I do, this is one of my go-to records.  A classic in every sense of the word. :coolio

Bitches Brew?  But my ex-wife doesn't drink beer.  ???

Seriously though, I've always heard great things about this album and though it isn't my usual preferred genre of music, I've always thought that I should give it a listen at least once.

Pharoah's Dance, bro, incredible.  The production always seems muddled to me, don't know if that adds to the charm or detracts from it.  But definitely a landmark album.

Such, such, such a good album. I was reading the other day that Thom Yorke was inspired by the kind of sound that's on Bitches Brew when making OK Computer, which I thought was pretty interesting.

Generally I hate jazz, but this without a doubt is one of the greatest albums ever. I guess it's really the big band jazz I don't like, I'll listen to fusion because I like music that's completely random.

Over time, I'm actually coming to prefer Kind of Blue overall. Bitches Brew is way more intense when I do listen, though.

I'd actually rate a bunch of Miles albums above Bitches Brew. Although I love it, it's not near Kind of Blue, or Milestones.. or even Miles Ahead.

I REALLY have to force myself to not listen to this because there is so much more Miles to listen to that should be played.

It's always the first one I reach for. I think I've managed to keep it out of the CD player for over a month now.

Supposedly, Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit was influenced by hearing Sketches Of Spain.

I still haven't really been able to make that connection myself.
