Can't pin point just one song as THE best, but Comforting Sounds by Mew is certainly up there. I completely lost myself in it.

In Velvet Coffins We Slept, by Unexpect. They change the song a bit live and the vocal section with Leïlindel and then Syriak is just incredible. Really fun song to handbang to, too.

"Lazarus" by Porcupine Tree. No contest. Singing along with an entire venue during the chorus was the most heart wrenching concert experience I've ever had.

Ouch...let me think.

edit: After looking at my concert list, I have come up with a few.

Aerosmith-Dream On (on top of the Green Monster at Fenway Park in Boston:)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhOUemTh3uc&feature=related

Elton John and Billy Joel-Piano Man (the day before I saw DT:)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0caud7hO0N0

Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne: Iron Man/Paranoid (at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame gig in NYC:)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tn05JMG2oNc&feature=related

Bruce Springsteen and Tom Morello-The Ghost of Tom Joad (also at the RARHOF gig in NYC:)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-mq0uJ7rlM

Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel-Born to Run (also same gig:)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78qF8haa3mo

Those songs changed my life and now you can watch them. Those are all the songs from the actual gigs.

Oh man, I've only been a fan of Mew for a few weeks, but "Comforting Sounds" would be at the top of my list for songs I'd like to see live.

For a Symphony X concert, they played at a venue with tables...so, there was no moshing directly in front of the stage but only off to the sides.  Well, our table was dead center, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STAGE.  It was so amazing.   When the band came in and the lights came on for Set the World on Fire, the first thing I saw was Russell's menacing grizzly bear face staring down at me.  I thought I was a goner.  But anyway, like I said there was no moshing or crowding directly in front of the stage due to the tables, so I had plenty of room to headbang.

Afterward, we hung around for two hours and caught the tour buses and got pictures with everybody.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. G. Sertillanges

Bryan Adams  - Cuts Like A Knife  (he pulls a highschool friend up on stage and lets him play rythm guitar for the song - said friend then pretty much takes over the crowd, much to Bryan's amusement)

In The Air Tonight - Phill Collins. Despite being massively undermiced and a mostly disappointing show, having him sneak WAY up into the crowd and begin the song sitting beside some stranger who had no idea he was there...was fantastic.

Simply The Best - Tina Turner................she's Tina...if you haven't seen her......never mind.

Iron Maiden - Fear of The Dark............it wasn't RIO...but holy shit...what a song.

Pantera........all songs.......twice......fuck my head.

honorable mention.

I Am A Wild Party - Kim Mitchell   rah rah ole!
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

Dream Theater - Take the Time ... My favourite DT track on Images and Words. It was amazing.

Porcupine Tree - Lazarus / Trains

Transatlantic - Stranger in Your Soul (Shepherd's Bush Empire gig 2010)

Opeth - The Funeral Portrait

One month and a day from 9/11. A 5 minute walk from my apartment (I was in grad school at the time). Emotional, particularly as I grew up in NY and knew people killed in the WTC.  I don't know that it's the best song, but it certainly was the high point of the best concert I've been to (and I've been to lots of concerts).

—No, continued Aunt Kate, she wouldn't be said or led by anyone, slaving there in that choir night and day, night and day. Six o'clock on Christmas morning! And all for what?
—Well, isn't it for the honour of God, Aunt Kate? asked Mary Jane, twisting round on the piano-stool and smiling.
Aunt Kate turned fiercely on her niece and said:
—I know all about the honour of God, Mary Jane

Bruce Springsteen - Jungleland :hefdaddy

I bet that was awesome! Love that song.

Mine is probably "Man in the Box" by Alice in Chains.  I just saw them last year in Providence RI with William Duvall on lead vocals.  Would've have loved to seem them with Layne, but just wasn't old enough back then.  William rocks it though!

Runner-up is probably "Chokehold (Cocked 'n' Loaded)" by Children of Bodom in 2005.  The final gang vocal part in this song was intense with the whole audience joining in... CHOKEHOLD 'TIL THE END!!!

I've only been to 3 or 4 concerts, so I don't have much to drawn from.  Seeing Mushroomhead perform Before I Die was pretty awesome because it was a small club and the light show sync'd with the double bass in the song.
