Re: Skydivingninja's Song Roulette ROUND SEVEN RESULTS FINALLY UP
« Reply #245 on: April 17, 2011, 09:27:06 PM »
RESULTS!  Sorry I had a dragon to slay with the mighty Thundersword before I could listen to these lovely songs.

Gorille 10 gajillion points
Skydivingninja-Synthetic Sky
You win the roulette forever for not only finding the best song this round, but for finding the best artist in the world.  My life wasn't complete until just now!

Okay, but seriously, results.  Sorry I'm a failure at life.  My only hope is that ZBomber actually killed himself this time.

Laterlolus88 5 Points
Buckethead-Mausoleum Door
I know I asked for synth/electronic stuff, but when I saw you sent me Buckethead of all things I was a bit skeptical.  I mean, this is the same guy who wrote "Jordan," right?  Well I never knew he did stuff like this, and oddly, it kind of reminded me of Abstract in the Sky (if you don't know AitS, look no further than Volkie Poo).  Very cool, slightly spooky, and groovy, and the guitar noodling in the middle of the song was incredibly tasteful.

Gorille 4 Points
Massive Attack - Splitting the Atom
Someone recommended this to me after I commented about how much I liked Volk's album.  I can understand why.  That was really awesome as well!  Simple, good beat, dreamlike...not really sure what else to say about it.

Voxyn 4 Points
Kyte-ihnfsa
I think I was hooked by the first second.  The vocalist sounds like a combination of Mariuz Duda and Connor Oberst, but it really works well.  Excellent, excellent find.

ZedBomber 3 Points
The Pineapple Thief-Wake Up the Dead
I only have Tightly Unwound, and I remember it being somewhere between "all right" and "good," I don't remember it much, but if this is from their new album then they already remind me of Pure Reason Revolution, with some kind of new prog model of "release good first proggy album, then go electronic and shit and make good music like that."  Hopefully they avoid the third step of "get someone else to write all your songs, ignore the awesome female vocalist, lose your souls, and make a really REALLY disappointing third album," because this song grabbed me more than the whole last album and I'm curious to look at the whole thing (though, granted, I need to listen to it again).  My one complaint is that there isn't much of a low end, which could really bring the song to amazing heights.

AcidRainlte 3 Points
Polkadot Cadaver-Pure Bedlam for Half Breeds
I've heard you and Justin praise these guys endlessly.  I also know you're staying over at Ryan's just to see them.  I've heard some DFD and PC stuff before, so I really need to get some of their stuff, because this song was really awesome.  Wasn't exactly what I was thinking of for this round, but the beginning certainly counts enough. :D  I wanted to dance and headbang with all the absurdity of it all.

dtismajesty 3 Points
Krister Linder - Turning Daisies
Sure is indie in this roulette.  But it was good.  So good for you for not sucking.

Antigoon 2 Points
Ratatat-17 Years
I only know "Wildcat" from this band, and since this song is from the same album I might pick it up at some point.  This song is chock full of great, fun riffs, and I feel really bad for only giving it two points, but the others were just so strong...

Sigz 1 Point
Fennesz-Caecilia
Well aren't you all avant garde and indie as fuck?  Very atmospheric, which is always a plus.  It was a nice listen, but I think I'd need a whole album of this stuff rather than a standalone song, so it falls a bit flat compared to the other submissions.  Is there an album of it you'd recommend for me to really get a full Fennesz experience?

THE POINTS SO FAR
Gorille85-25
Sigz-24
ZBomber-24
Antigoon-23
Voxyn-22
Lateralus88-21
dtismajesty-18
acidrainlte-17

ALL RIGHT, FINAL ROUND.  My interest in Dream Theater was sparked by their really big, epic sound on SFAM, which I had grown to appreciate thanks to lots of classic rock bands who really knew how to construct climaxes to their songs.  If it weren't for DT and that epic feeling, I wouldn't have found my way here, and I wouldn't have discovered so many other amazing bands.  So now your challenge is this: send me something grand and epic.  Not necessarily in length, but in feel.  Think "Jungleland," "Deadhead," "Trial of Tears," "The Light and the Glass," "Take a Bow," "Butterflies & Hurricanes," "The Show Must Go On," etc. etc.

5 points is the only proper score for a Buckethead song.  :tup

Not sure if you know, but The Pineapple Thief has released 8 albums, so there are actually 6 studio-albums released before Tightly Unwound. :P
Unlike your example with PRR (where the third album sucked so bad), TPT's latest album really is great, and you should check it out.  :tup

It's kinda sad that they don't get more attention, but still a fantastic band.  :hat

Matt.  Great band if your in a melancholy mood. I personally love Abducting the Unicorn & 137.  Their first 2 albums.

The only reason people don't talk about the earlier albums is because they are all really hard to find. They've been reissuing them though, so for people like me who prefer to buy music instead of download it, it's a good thing!

I have no idea what I'm sending this round.

Would it count against me to use an artist I've already used before in this roulette? I have a song that'd be fucking perfect. If not, that's totally fine too. I should be able to come up with something else.
