For this round I also have a few ideas but I have the feeling that dtismajesty will think of the same artists.

Oh wow, I'm surprised you liked it actually!  :tup I wouldn't say the rest of the album is like that song, though. Halloween is very different from the rest of the album, but it might be worth checking out. There are a lot of darker songs on that album, like "Don't Drink The Water", but also lighter stuff like "Stay" and "The Dreaming Tree" (which is my personal favorite DMB song). And I completely understand what you mean about his voice, it really took me a long time before I kinda got "used" to it.  :lol That song is very different though, because like you said he was really straining for it to sound like that. He also didn't put the lyrics for that song in the liner notes because he didn't want his mom to read them.  :lol

I'll take a look at your last.fm and then send my submission later tonight!

5 Points-Antigoon
Mumford & Sons-Dust Bowl Dance
Man, this song was just the kind of thing I was thinking of.  I've heard a bunch about these guys and a few songs here and there, but this convinced me that I need to pick up their album.  The singer's voice is a lot more versatile than I thought it was going to be, at least in terms of mood (I don't expect him to be doing death growls anytime soon).  The moment where the song "turns" is incredible.  They need to start making more cool stuff like this so people like me don't just almost immediately throw in the "sounds fine, but nothing really special" camp after hearing a few folk songs.  Well done.
Excellent song! :tup Not my favourite on the album, but still great and definitely one of the darker ones. Definitely get the album Matt, it's amazing and has a great variety of tone.

Also LOL at Joe starting with the same band he started my Roulette with. And winning 5 points with it again. :lol

I understand where Antigoon's coming from.  Every roulette I've been in has involved me sending a Mew song in an early round, and they usually do fairly well (except for UMH's because he has something against beautiful, childlike, dreamlike voices).

Also, dtismajesty, I'll call you a kid until you stop looking like you're twelve in your pictures

Oh absolutely, I've been in 3 roulettes and in all of them have submitted songs by The Cat Empire and Freak Kitchen, and they've always done well because they have enough variety that I can tailor which song I choose to each person.

:lol It's a very good song, although again there are others on the album I prefer. But then again, the vocals in that song are really nice, and it's all about good music that fits the theme, which is why you only ranked in the middle for my second round. :P

Sorry, worded that poorly. I meant that the next song I send him may be a song from your roulette!

(are you talking about The High Road?)

That was a pretty difficult choice. I thought about something Julie Christmas related, but I feel like he's already heard her stuff before.

Someone already sent Julie Christmas.  And no, I have not heard her stuff before save one song from Made Out of Babies (she's the same person, right?)

Sorry guys.  Spring Break started Friday and I'm at a beachhouse in Charleston SC...with no Internet.  Haven't listened to all of the songs yet or started writeups.  Expect them Thursday-ish.  So I'm posting here from Starbucks.  John Myung's here!  And he's with a guy who kind of looks like *HURK*

Damn.  I was hoping ZBomber would have killed himself by now so he'd stop sending me such awful songs.

JK!  Results time!

5 Points-TheVoxyn
Jeff Buckley-Lover, You Should've Come Over
Well, I think after all these years, I'm getting a sense of what all you Buckley-heads are blowing your loads over.  I had only heard his version of "Hallelujah" before, which I thought was all right (I bought it as part of that thing a few years ago where you try and get one song to beat the X Factor single in the UK).  So I was kinda confused when I saw all these people on DTF calling him the greatest voice ever.  I don't think I'd go that far, but DAMN this shows off his chops!  Very impressed.  Guess I should take the next step towards Hipsterdom and pick up Grace soon.

4 Points-DTisMajesty
Susanne Sonfor-Father Father
Well this made up for your last round SO MUCH.  Never heard her even mentioned on these boards, or anywhere on the Internet.  Why is Ytse our obscure music finder when you've sent me unknown stuff the past few rounds?  :lol  Her voice is really haunting in this song.  Its incredibly beautiful, and looking past her vocals alone, that's a lovely piano melody, the kind of thing you could listen to for ages and not get tired of it.

4 Points-Sigz
Brand New-Daisy
I just heard Brand New for the first time on zxlkho's radio show a few weeks ago and thought they were pretty awesome.  This only confirms it even more.  I'm not really sure what more to say about it, other than "powerful."

3 Points-AcidRainlte
Faith No More-Star A.D.
You would've been in the four point range if not for Sigz's song.  It was pretty close.  So yeah, Mike Patton.  Heard tons about him as well, this song showed me how awesome he really is.  I mean, there are "crazy sounding vocals," like the guy from DSO, and then there are these, which manage to have a lot more power and...balls?  I guess?  I also found it really cool how subtly his voice had changed by the end of the song.

3 Points-Gorille85
Julie Christmas-I'm So Afraid
Wow.  This is a lot different from the little MOOB stuff I heard.  Pretty good, though for some reason I've found myself disliking the tone of her voice sometimes, it gets kind of shrill.  I dunno.  But it was a good song and she's a pretty good vocalist.  Good and unique, which is what the rest of the submissions kind of suffer from.

3 Points-ZBomber
Fleetwood Mac-I'm So Afraid
I really just have their greatest hits, but don't really listen to them outside of "Rhiannon," so I let this one count.  Very good vocals, but nothing really that special about them.  I feel like I've heard it before, you know?  Despite that, the music behind it was incredible.  There's nothing WRONG with the vocals, but there's nothing that knocks you over the head with greatness.

2 Points-Antigoon
The Littlest Man Band-Always Sayin'
This was a pretty good song, but I feel like the others just outclassed it.  I'd put it in the 3's if I could.  Sorry I don't have more to say :(

1 Point-Lateralus88
Shinedown-I Dare You
Eh.  I mean, it was fine, but I have the same complaint as I do with ZBomber's submission, which is that I feel I've heard it before.  The song was all right, but in a contest of vocals it doesn't shine (cwatididthur) through.

Next round: Blatant thievery from BrotherH time!  Send me something with a really awesome intro.  As my love for songs like "Deadhead," "Trial of Tears," "Time Consumer," and "Red Barchetta" show, I love me an awesome intro.  Doesn't have to be long, just great.  You have five earth minutes.  Make it perfect!

Interesting round choice. Again, nothing jumps to mind so I'll have to think about this one for a bit.

Also :( thought my submission would place higher. Although when you compare it to everyone else's submissions, I guess it wasn't the best choice.

...Shinedown's vocals not impressive? You've got to be kidding me. Brent Smith easily has one of (if not the best) best voices in mainstream music. But oh well, opinions, etc.
I felt its length in quite a few places.
