lol you guys.  Sorry, I had to take my car in today and I have an accounting test tomorrow, so I haven't had much time to listen to the submissions.

Also I'm still waiting for Voxyn.  Blame him.

TheVoxyn

Sorry, will send something within now and 1 or 2 hours.

antigoon

what do you expect us to feel bad for you or something you piece of crap

ZBomber

I hate all of you, if I had a blue shell right now I'd fuckin use it

AcidLameLTE

Why have you not listened to all the tracks yet?

ROUND 5 RESULTS

ZBomber-5 Points
The Low Anthem - Charlie Darwin
First thing that hit me: great vocals!  I'm not huge on singer-songwriter or straight folk stuff, but this was a definite exception.  And you've suceeded me in bringing a band so indie I haven't even heard of them on the internet or from my indie kid friends until this moment!  But I really don't know how I can describe this song.  It was just so good and I can't explain why.  But you've won this round!  Hooray!

Neko Case-Vengeance Is Sleeping
I remember hearing about Neko Case from TheOutlawXanadu's top 10 from 2009 and from Scott Pilgrim.  What a great voice, and what great lyrics too.  They're very relatable, I feel that almost anyone could find some kind of meaning that applies to them.  I certainly could.  Like Voxyn's, its beautiful, simple, and soothing, yet sad at the same time.

Lateralus88-4 Points
Novembre-Aquamarine
Album cover looks like Terria, except with a kid and a city instead of Canada.  The song sounds nothing like Terria, though.  This song was a nice change of pace from the other contestants.  While most people opted for soft sad acoustic songs, you went for a louder (though the sound of the song itself is pretty bad.  Not sure if its a loudness war thing, a youtube thing, or both, but it was kind of irritating), yet still genuinely emotional song.  The guitar work was superb.  Bonus gut points as well for sending a song with great screams.

Sigz-3 Points
Warpaint-Shadows
So I listened to two of their songs in that thread SoundscapeMN posted.  I was more of a fan of "Undertow" than whatever the other one was.  Nowhere near as good as Eisley, as SSMN claims, but they were all right.  This song's probably the best I've heard.  Liked the sort of Radioheadesque almost-danceable drum beat around the 2:00 mark during the chorus.  Gives me a bit more incentive to check out a full  album but I haven't heard anything that has blown me away yet.

Conspire-Antimatter
Wow, this is really beautiful, simple, and soothing music.  Vocals are good as well even if they're not especially special.  Reminded me of a lower Daniel Gildenlow, Mikael Akerfeldt, or any number of Scott Stapp soundalikes from America.  It seemed like it would gain a lot from being sung by someone like Steven Wilson, though the current vocalist does a great job of making it sad without doing anything special with his vocals, so maybe it wouldn't.  I don't know.  But still, this is probably my favorite song from you so far this roulette.  Love that last line "Have I wasted a dream?"  Do these guys make more stuff like this?

Gorille-3 Points
O+S-New Life
Once again you're trying to seduce me with great bass grooves.  IT WON'T WORK I TELLS YA-okay yes it did.   :heart :heart :heart  Girl singer is awesome as well.  I'm in dire need of more female vocalists and this girl definitely fits.  This song put me in an incredibly pleasant trance.  Great pick!

Tom Waits-Dirt in the Ground
Only thing I had heard from Tom Waits before was "What's He Building in There" thanks to the intro tape to the Muse song "Deadstar" from Hullabaloo soundtrack.  I thought it was pretty cool, even if it wasn't much of a real song.  Now that I'm hearing one of his actual songs...um...his voice is worse than aged Bob Dylan.  Lots of it reminded me of Dr. Rockso, no joke.  I was hoping he would break down about doing "cuh-cuh-cuh-cuh-COCAINE."  Now I didn't like the vocals, but you are right in that his direct lyrics and minimalist lyrics are fantastic.  Had he been a better singer this song could've won the roulette.  Sorry, tyke.

Acidrainlte-1 Point
The Offspring-Gone Away
Not really what I was expecting or looking for in this round.  Despite that, the song was all right.  Lyrics were fine, groove was fine, song in general was just fine.  Unfortunately that was it.  Didn't get anything else from it.  Sorry.

NEXT ROUND: The theme is 1999.  Send me a song from this year that I haven't heard.  If you can't think of anything from that specific year, I'll give you a year in either direction to pick something from.

:heart I thought you'd love the song. That's why I wanted you to post the results so badly.  :lol Glad you liked it!

OH GOD 1999. I just looked at my albums from that year and I literally don't have anything you haven't heard, I don't think. A third of them are live, the other third are Porcupine Tree, and the others are joke music (The Simpsons and Pokemon... and Dream Theater :neverusethis:)

Yeah, I honestly have no idea what I'm gonna do for this round. I think I'm gonna have to find some music myself.  :lol

AcidLameLTE

FUCK YOU, I'M NOT SENDING YOU ANYTHING FOR THE NEXT ROUND. YOU CAN ROT IN A HOLE IN A DIE

lateralus88

Whatever the sound issue was, it was caused by shitty youtube quality. That entire album (Materia, which I HIGHLY recommend) is a fantastic sounding record. Glad you enjoyed it. It's a personal favourite from Novembre. That entire album is genuinely melancholic as well.

Alright, 1999. Let's do this.

Zbomber-Like I said, feel free to look in 98 or 2000 if you can't find anything from 1999.

Ravenheart

Oh Jeebus, 1999. I have so many picks to choose from, but I'm not in this roulette. >_>

lateralus88

All of my 1999 picks you either already know or just wouldn't make for a good entry. Moving over to 2000. I have something for ya.

ClairvoyantCat

Waits isn't about the vocal ability.  I'd have no other singer sing those lyrics.

His voice is really the only one that is broken down, honest, and raw enough for words like those.  It's much of an acquired taste, but once you've grown friendly with his deep rasp, you really can't imagine life without it.

Also, you were probably sober.  You must be drunk and depressed on a rainy day to listen to Waits correctly.

ZBomber

What are your rules for this round? Will you accept live albums? Greatest hits?

Even looking at 98 and 00, I have some stuff you haven't heard but I don't think you'd like any of it.  :lol Worst comes to worst, I do have something I can send, but it was from an artist I sent in an earlier round and I'd rather not recycle artists if I can.

I'll still look around and see if I discover some more music.

King Postwhore

Z, just pick something from the Back Street Boys Millennium.  That's a safe pick.
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

I'd rather send something from NSYNC's "No Strings Attached" album. Nothing gets my panties wetter than "Bye Bye Bye". *swoon*

I still have a physical copy of that somewhere in my room. Same goes for No Strings Attached, I think.

Check out their last 2 albums (Planetary Confinement and Leaving Eden), both like that and both really awesome.

lateralus88

Planetary Confinement is such a beautiful album. Legions especially.

ariich

Gone Away is such a great song. Matt is a terrible person.

Anyone who doesn't like Tom Waits.  I'm not referring to anyone specifically.

I can just make this an open round if so many people are having trouble coming up with something.
