Actually, most of that list is made up of completely average solos. And then there's For the Love of God, one of the worst solos I've heard in my life.

I looked at the results so far, not even worth voting.  The only thing that poll tells me is, there are an overwhelming number of Alterbridge fans voting.  Stupid.

Is that any different than DT fans voting for Petrucci? How do you know it's all Alter Bridge fans voting for that song? Yes, this poll was posted on the AB forum, but a lot of members from that board were voting for Pink Floyd and GNR.  Blackbird has been revered by the numbers! And like zxlkho said, the solo really, really, REALLY good, as is the song.

So stop bitchin, and vote for you favorite solo if you wanna make a difference in it.
People just get upset because the winners often win based on fans who vote blindly for their favorite band, so the winner generally turns out to be the most commercially successful band. Sure, as DT fans we're just as guilty as any group, but DT has been around a long time and has never been "popular" by any stretch, so they don't generally win.

I mean really, a poll with 20 guitar solos from all different types of bands will have very few, if any, voters that have actually heard all of them. Do you really think that of all the guitar solos in the history of the world JP has two of the Top 20? Don't get me wrong, he's amazing, but the whole thing is pretty dumb really.

Watch when Petrucci blows us all away when he unleashes the most incredible, powerful solo in the new album. I can imagine the epicz
So energy! Power!

The Under a Glass Moon solo is so much better than the one from Hollow Years. I'm not even sure how it got on there.

Sorry but I had to give it to "Comfortably Numb", it's a great solo but the PULSE version is EPIC.

Of COURSE the bands with the biggest internet presence will win!  That's how JP and JM won best musicians in their instrument categories!  It shouldn't surprise anyone that Alter Bridge is in the lead.  Good thing Slipknot didn't get any nominations or they'd be winning now instead!

As for the selection of solos, it looks like fans submitted entries and the site chose the twenty most popular.  So yeah, there are gonna be a lot of solos that didn't make the cut, but these contests are silly and useless anyway, so vote for your favorite and stop caring!

The PULSE Comfortably Numb solo owns everyone's soul.
This. But to clarify, the CD version. The DVD one is different... weird.

Had to vote for comfortably numb, being my favourite solo out of the list. UaGM came in second for me though, and still got the blues third for me.

I voted for 'Stairway to Heaven'. Most of the other solos are technically more impressive and feature more out-of-the-ordinary moments in them. But this almost strictly pentatonic solo is just my favorite. It sounds like life, like humans, like a story, just natural. It sounds completely effortless. Jimmy Page says that the solo was largely improvised.. incredible.

Close second for me goes to 'Blackbird'. Definately the best traditional rock solos I've heard this decade, and most certainly memorable.

At least an honorable mention to 'Comfortably Numb'. I really think the solo on PULSE is epic, but I'm just not that into the Floyd at the moment. It's my favorite Gimour solo though.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

I voted Under a Glass Moon.  I'm sorry but that solo is absolute heaven.

And while I haven't heard the song that's annihilating Comfortably Numb, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that solo as well.  That Alter Bridge solo BETTER be worthy and not just all the Altar Bridge fanboys voting for it.
I don’t know what to put here anymore

Just listened to Blackbird. Actually a damned good song, but the guitar solo is definitely not worthy of winning this poll IMO. It's not a bad solo, but it's not amazing.

I gotta say, this thread has made me realize how incredibly picky I am with guitar solos. :-\

Any list like this that doesn't have Voices on it is just silly to ME.  I'll never forget my first show of theirs back in '97, he crossed over to the left of the stage for this solo and rocked it out 5 feet from my outstretched arms.  Good times.

That said, I voted for Voodoo Chile.  It makes me sad that it's getting so little support.  It's simply the most bad-ass guitar performance........ever.

I really think if they had to pick a petrucci solo I'd go with the one in another day, the count of tuscany (ending solo), or razors edge.

Whoa, a seriously amazing bunch of solos there. I voted for Hotel California, although I could have easily picked Stairway to heaven as well. The two Petrucci solos are obviously awesome, but I couldn't resist Hotel California. If the outro from Ministry of lost souls were in the poll, it would be an easy choice.

It was a tough choice for me between Tornado of Souls and Under a Glass Moon, but I ended up going with the latter.

I'm a huge Vai fan and I like For the Love of God, even if it is overly popular for him.  Tender Surrender is way better and is worthy of any top solos list.

Considering it's not really a solo there's a good reason it's not in the poll.

The poll is referring specifically to the Budokan version. Of those two, it's pretty kick-ass.

I wonder how they came up with those two though? I would think most DT fans would have voted for LITS as the top JP solo. That one gets me everytime.

Petrucci is awesome, but no way should he have two solos in that poll, especially given that there are only 20 choices.  And the "Hollow Years" solo being one of the two is laughable.

I voted for "Comfortably Numb."

The funny thing about this is that I think Under a Glass Moon is one of his best solos (if not his BEST one) and the Hollow Years Budokan one is one of his worst ones.  LOL
I agree wholeheartedly.  That Hollow Years solo is just, well, not in the same league at ALL.

I can't seriously vote for any of the JP solos in that poll when there's solos in the list that wrote guitar history. Such as Eruption and the Freebird solo. Or Comfortably Numb.
